most of our volnation bretheren have giving our new young coach a free pass on several early blunders.
im not stupid and fully expected the secondary violations, mass negative press and even the (family traditon).i can live with it,dont approve of the bravado (at least not until earned).
now i do expect it from monte and ed,they have lived it/breathed it and flat out ate it up since they have been in the league.
i understand lane wants to be (wantabee) in this esteemed catagory, with the guys he has brought in.the problem is hes not.let me post a little article for you to digest and i will await your thoughts and feedback on our potential 2010 qb prospect:
(Numerous quarterbacks are starting to reel in multiple offers, led by 6-foot-2, 215-pound Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith standout Phillip Sims. He has at least 14 written offers, including one he received from Georgia at the end of last week. Sims also has offers from, among others, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Alabama, West Virginia, Clemson and Boston College. He plans on visiting Alabama sometime during the spring, and the Georgia offer is of interest to him as well. Sims said he has been told by Georgia that true freshman quarterback Zach Mettenberger could be moved to tight end eventually and said he was told by Alabama that redshirt freshman Star Jackson could be moved to another position as well.)
ive consistanly said from day one it was a major mistake to de-recruit tajh boyd.see ga. and al. from the above article.we would have been jumping thru hoops for zach and found a spot for star as well.
you just dont and i mean never ever give the cold shoulder to a potential playmaker who wants to come to your school.this recruit was heavy on the text mail to other recruits and forming a quick signing pact w/giles/stokes/brown/oku and several others to come to u.t.
this was a huge error and a painfull learning experience that will set us back a year.i would bet a c-note a couple of those guys will be playmakers for somebody, should have been us.
coaching hires:
1st hire-monte (no brainer) and a bargain as well.
2nd hire-rodney garner,3rd best closer in the sec after urban and nick
3rd hire-ed ogeron,blood-guts-passion,top 5 recruiter every year-best talent evaluator.
4th hire-trooper taylor-top 10 recruiter-already knew our pipeline and had contact w/ the o and d-line recruits we so desperatly needed for this class.
throw out chandler and cregg.keep the rest of the staff the same.believe it or not, this was the original plan.our boy dropped the ball (he did offer both). monte would have reeled them both in (like he did w/ed) but was not invited to the signing party.lane thought he could handle it himself.you never get up from the table until the ink is dry.
so now you know...shhh....the secret of my avatar :-(
