Sheriron Jones transferring to Colorado

Something had to give, just the way it works these days. Wish him nothing but the best!

ONE of them was going to transfer. Thought they'd compete in the Spring and the one who lost out would move on. Most of these kids get the gist from the coaches which way it's swinging. DeBord had some high praise for Dormady's work before the bowl game. We kept hearing how Jones was balling out. Something registered.

Ok, so we would have 3 assuming we had Johnson, now we have 2 sure things meaning we definitely can't get by without a '17 kid now.

With them all being spaced out a year it wouldn't been uncommon to have 4 on the roster. Bama has 4-5 right now.

I never said that he would transfer out early, just that i thought if he didn't play quickly he would transfer because he is talented and just might not get the playing time here. Yes I figured Dormady would stay to compete in 2017 spring and leave if he didn't win the #1QB spot. That wouldn't create any depth issues.

Does anyone think we go after another QB in Recruiting or wait till next years class?

Wait til 2017 class IMO. Did us no good to logjam the position since Sheriron left the program without ever taking a snap. Stagger them IMO. Dobbs...Dormady...then redshirt JG next year if possible....then bring in another stud in 2017 and redshirt him while Dormady and JG battle it out to be the starter.

Not good. Dormady won't work as well in this offense

Don't think that's necessarily true Cat....swap a great runner and average thrower in Dobbs with a great/much better passer and average runner in Dormady. The offense has become more QB run heavy because of Josh's passing issues. I can envision Dormady being somewhere in the middle between Dobbs and what Worley was in terms of running the offense. If QD could do what Worley just refused to do, which is keep the defense honest by running 4-6 times a game and extend a drive or two with his legs, while competing 65% of his passes and pushing the average attempt yardage from 6.7 to 8 or so, I can see him being very effective in the offense.

That being said, JG could be the wildcard. If he shows up and shows out after a redshirt in 2016 and beats out QD, then oh well, the Dormady era never gets off the ground and we're back to a more prototypical DT QB.

Good luck to him. Gurantano looks like the future starter and a future NFL player. It would be hard to get the starting spot here.

Reminds me of the Brandon Stewart transfer. Great talent who saw a better future at another school. Hope he has the same career that Stewart enjoyed.

i agree with this, kind of...but in reality, all Dormady would need to do is run enough keepers on the zone read to keep it honest. he won't have to have the 100 yard games or be as physical as Dobbs is.

but he's plenty athletic, and will be able to run the offense just fine.

I like the 3 we have now (Dobbs, Dormady, and JG on his way) for 2016. I'd rather skip on one in 2017 and take Lawrence all day in 2018.

Then we're in agreement. He doesn't have to be a dynamic runner like Dobbs, just a willing runner to keep the defense honest and occasionally move the chains. I assume his improved passing will more than make up the difference.

yeah, i think having a better passing attack (which i hope to see this year) is really what will make this offense dynamic.

If Butch likes what he sees in Dormady and Guarantano I think he should look for a project type QB for 2017. Mid 3 star type guy who could play in an emergency. More less a body or spot filler as I think that solidifies Lawrence to our Vols.

There's a thread for one...funky African name.

it will be OK, JG is coming in and will redshirt, learn the system a year while Dobbs runs the show with Dormady backing him up.... JG will likely be the starter 2017 and Dormady will still be a backup.

Good luck young man. I hope you tear it up out west.

I hate to lose the kid but those are the breaks when you recruit at a high level.

This is a bad loss for Tennessee i was hoping he would be the quarterback in 2017. Sheriron Jones will quarterback Colorado to a bowl game in 2017.

Not sure it's "a bad loss." QD has a bright future and Guarantano is coming next year

I hate that he's transferring. I wanted to see he play. The kid could move and has a nice arm.
