She may be unproven as a Coach, but UT Lady Vols need

So you would hire somebody to do a job they have no experience in and publicly said they don't want to do? Really? Let me know how that works out the next time you take your car in for service and you give it over to somebody who's never been a mechanic, says they don't want to be a mechanic, and further says they don't want to work on your car.

Now, Jeff...don't go being logical! 😂

Arkansas just fired a former ESPN analysis with no experience, the former Ark coach is close to 70, the SEC coach of the year was previously successful as a coach at a smaller school. At least three former WNBA high profile players have not duplicated Staley's success as a coach although all three started out recruiting well. Many of PHS players have become coaches and none have come close to achieving excellent results.

Recruit, Teach and Motivate and hope that the players Execute. How many times did we hear PHS talk about the difficulty of getting 40 minutes of commitment on every possession from her players?

it is probably a truism that most coaches are able to get their teams motivated to play the Lady Vols. (just ask the Penn State or the Alabama coaches).

The LVs seem to have turned around the #1 Recruiting, Teaching/Motivation by the coaching staff and Team players commitment every game x 40 minutes with a passion to Execute the game plan (1 game at a time) both need improvements.

Well it's a curiosity to me that some fans continue to insist that ex-players who have no coaching experience and state they don't want to coach keep getting their names mentioned as a great potential head coach.

Yet time after time, either Kara Lawson or Tamika Catchings or Chamique Holdsclaw's names keep getting posted as the holy grail of UT head coaches if only the AD was smart enough to go after one of them.

It's one thing to posit that an ex-player might be a good coach if they go the Kellie Jolly route and be an assistant for a few years and then take over a small program and work their way up. That's one thing.

But an ex-player who has no intention of ever coaching?

There is some kind of psychological phenomena affecting posters here that needs explaining.

I guess talking about other coaches that could be here makes for something for this board to talk about. The reality is that Holly is back next season and onward until her contract runs out. She got Hart to give her a huge contract and were not paying her a buyout so she has next season and probably another to turn this around and regardless she'll be 1.3 million richer if she has to leave in the future.

It's a real problem he has; unfortunately it's mixed with a knowledge of sports as well as intelligence. Then to top it off, he's a nice guy (a gentleman). He has a hard row to hoe; we'll just have to pull for him. Poor thing and bless his heart.:birgits_giggle:

Did you see gule claiming not to comprehend my post? He's just not wanting to admit he got guled.:eek:lol:

I think your heading registered the reason she won't be here. Any other unproven or unqualified people you'd like to see coach the LV's?

You are putting up with an unproven and unqualified Coach now.......I would at least like one that would instill some structure, discipline and effort!! :hi:

That is all fine. Now go see if you can find someone who can do that and actually wants to be the coach, instead of someone who says they don't want to be the coach. One thing is for sure, somebody that isn't going to coach is not going to instill structure, discipline, and effort.

How did it work out for the greatest coach ever? You really believe she doesn't want to coach UT even though she may have said that? What are you 12 yrs old?

Tennessee should attempt to find out if Becky Harmon (San Antonio Spurs Assist. coach for the past few years) is interested! She has stated that she wants to be a Head Coach. Who better to learn from than Popovich, plus she has coached the Spurs' summer team the last 2 years.

If by greatest coach ever you mean Summitt, she was already enrolled as a GA in the school of Health, Physical Education and Recreation when offered the job. Further, she had never said she didn't want the job and was considering taking the Kentucky job later.

Lawson isn't enrolled in any basketball-related curriculum and says she doesn't want the job.

Even a 12 year old can see the difference.

If she says she doesn't want to coach UT, why shouldn't we believe it?

I have to agree...if the ladies have said they do not want to coach people need to let it go and move on. Weird!

I love Kara as a commentator, I don't want her served up to fans who want to instantly be in the FF, which would not happen.

Why do people act like UTWBB is a program in dire straights needing to take a gamble on a coach? It used to be "hire Tyler Summitt"! The only + I can think of for his scandal was that the "hire Tyler" insanity disappeared.

This is the UTLV. Arguably the #1 brand in WCBB. Leadership with a pulse goes out and hires the absolute best that can be brought onto campus and pays whatever the cost. Outside of a handful, you will get a serious look from any candidate that you want. Or, we could just hire an assistant on staff and ... errr, I digressed.

We are not desperate and in need of throwing around "hail Mary's" to see if we can win big again.
Delusional. Yes, we are in dire straits. We need a head coach that knows how to coach. It's not going to get any better with Holly no matter what assistants they hire.
