The sky is not falling. God our fan base is negative as hell. Here are our STARTING lineups going into Georgia.

Qb- Tyler Bray (Soph)
Rb- Tauren Poole (Sr.)/ Marlin Lane (Fr.)
Fb- Ben Bartholomew (Jr. played in three games)
TE- Michael Rivera (Jr.)
OL- JuWan James (Soph)
OL- Alex Bullard (Soph)
OL- James Stone (Soph)
OL- Zach Fulton (Soph)
OL- Dallas Thomas (Jr.)
Wr- Da'Rick Rogers (Soph.)
Wr- Zach Rogers (Jr.)
Wr- DeAnthony Arnett (Fr.)

De- Jacques Smith (Soph)
Dt- Daniel Hood (Soph played 4 games)
Dt- Malik Jackson (Sr.)
De- Marlon Walls (Soph.)
Lb- Austin Johnson (Sr.)
Lb- Curt Maggit (Fr.)
Lb- Aj Johnson (Fr.)
C- Isiah Lanier (Soph. first year at UT)
C- Art Evans (Sr.)
FS- Prentiss Waggner (Jr.)
SS- Brent Brewer (Soph)

This lineup is EXTREMELY inexperienced. Obvious, we all know this... So why does everyone expect us to line up correctly everytime in a big game where young 19 year old kids are so jacked up that they can barely sit still, why does everyone expect for us to go out and run it down everyone's throat with a line that has been in flux and no one has more than two years of experience on it?

Dooley's main flaw to this point was stating at SEC media days that he was not going to use our youth and inexperience as an excuse, then before and after every game using our youth and inexperience as an excuse...

This group is YOUNG. Our coaching staff came into probably the worst situation you could possibly imagine as an aspiring head coach, but Dooley took the task nevertheless. Let's not be so short-sided and give this guy a chance to build his team and implant his ideals and the VFL program with a group from Freshman-Seniors and see what happens before we start calling for his head.

Let's once act like rational, sane, encouraging fans instead of adopting this "sky is falling attitude" that seems to become more and more popular among our fan base. Yes it's been a little while since Ole Rocky Top has had something to be proud of and call ours. Let's give this guy who seems to be of great character and beliefs a chance to bring us back.

It's not going to happen overnight. Sorry but it was wishful thinking on everyone's part that we could maybe beat UGA, LSU, Bama, USCe... We might pull an upset in one or two of those and that's great, but all of those teams SHOULD beat us given what we have personnel-wise going into the game.

We are putting together some pieces to the puzzle to be successful and make our run either next year in 2012, or for sure in 2013. Grow up Volnation and stand behind our guys, they feel just as bad if not worse than we do trust me. So let's show support and not tear 18-21 year old kids down when they make a mistake or lose a game. Let's paint recruit's names on the rock and be loud on Saturdays to make high school stand outs wanna come be a part of rebuilding one of the greatest football traditions in the country!

Reason people can't calm down is because we ran the ball better last year with the OLine were freshman! No improvement just gotten worse.

Have you seen our schedule?

Not sure about you but I don't like seeing UT go 2-6 ( possibly worse ) in the SEC.

the FIRST piece of the puzzle is always the easiest to place. I think Dooley is having trouble with all the rest of the pieces.

Art Evans did not get the start, Lanier and Teague. I didn't see Art get in it was more of Eric Gordon

We had a better passing game that opened up the run. We could have had about the same if Hunter and now Bray had not gone down.

I Agree with you totally. We, as in Tennessee, have the worst fans in the country. They fly off the deep end every time we lose. Dooley will be a great coach if some of these idiots leave him alone. Chill people!!!!

In regards to my pieces of the puzzle statement, giving hope for next season and the one after...

Dooley is the type of guy we need at the helm to right all the wrong that has been done to our image over the past few years. This ship got shaky when Fulmer stopped giving a damn. Great Vol, just lost it unfortunately... Then we go and hire a complete and total a$$hole as a "quick fix" to the problem and we all know how that one ended.

Enter Derek Dooley. A little known intelligent guy with football, SEC football no less, in his blood. This guy is smart, has tremendous integrity and seems to be genuine. He has instituted the VFL program and holds all of his players to a high moral standard. (see Janzen Jackson)

The only bright spot from Lane Kiffin was the gift of Tyler Bray. (Not even in the top 3 of Kiffin's board at the position btw) With the nucleus of: Bray and the young line and our talent at receiver our offense looks poised for greatness next year. Our defense gains experience for our young players and if we can add depth and a piece or two will be much better. Once we start competing with and even beating teams like: UGA, Florida, Bama, LSU, Arkansas, USCe we will have a launching pad and a seed to plant into young 18 year old high school stars...

We have the tradition, facilities, foundation. Let's give em one hell of a fan base to add to that. One that's nationally recognized positively as a loud, wild, and crazy bunch who supports their team even when the going gets a little tough.

You mean to tell me we had a better passing game last year against Alabama than we did this year against Montana, Cincy, or Buffalo?

If that happens next year, then Dooley is gone and we replace him. The next coach will have a much more solid roster than what Dooley inherited.

Agree. These youngsters chose to play for the University of Tennessee. They are "giving their all for Tennessee". We as alumni, fans or followers chose the University of Tennessee. We need to lead by example and "give our all for Tennessee". Which for this Vol Geezer means, despite the uphill battles ahead of us, by damn, we need to do the same and get our a$$ in a seat and support them. :clapping:

Wow. A thread I enjoyed reading. Nicely stated OP. One factoid to throw out as an indicator that we are improving on the field in some areas. Everyone remember how bad we were last year on third down conversations? Going into UGA, we were # 1 in the nation. Yes, that was against primarily against non-SEC schools, but still it turned around quickly. Plus, our pass protection has been decent, no matter how good Bray is, he can't throw if he is running for his life.

My memories of UT football go back to Bill Battle-so I am rather excited about CDD. If we stay realistic, he can at a minimum give us a better team in a few years. I think there is a chance that he could, just maybe,be some special. But we will see. I like the fact that our team doesn't quit, doesn't get arrested and I am not embarrassed by out HC's mouth. It has been YEARS/decades since a Vol team didn't quite several games a season

I agree with all the positive things being said here.

I think alot of the posters on here are NOT real UT fans but are posers that only want to stir things up for our recruits to see and change their minds and sign with other schools.

Others are young, unrealistic, have no serious football knowledge and are clueless about how long it will take to rebuild us back to being a national powerhouse where top 4* and 5* players want to come play.

I hate losing and I want to win as badly as anyone but I will NEVER lower myself to bashing our players, coaches and program.

VFL...GO BIG ORANGE!!!

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but the amount of fans leaving the game when we were only down two possesions was just sickening. This is for all the "fans" that ***** and moan about our team then wont even stay at the game to cheer on the kids that suit up for US! I have been there, i've set through a blow out, shed a tear when bama blocked that kick and the heart attack the music city bowl was and yes it is hard to listen to the visitors in our house celibrate and cheer in your face. But suck it up, take one on the chin and stay for our team. Winning or loseing we are TENNESSEE and regardless of score you should be proud of that. You dont think the recruits that are at the game notice these things? I've set in the recruits section and heard the talk between the 4 and 5 stars noting how the fans jump ship and have to hear **** like Rammer Jammer in our house. its unexceptable and shame on you for telling me to set down, shame on you for not hollering once, and shame on you if you leave one second befor the final whistle

I knew that was coming, if we are down 2 possessions with 4 minutes left you better believe some "fans" are gonna leave Neyland. I don't get it nor understand it im with you on this all the way.

Ouch. At what point in the game will LSU fans outnumber UT?

I am a little worried it will be at kick off.

It wasn't a the 4 min left mark when the people started leaving in droves...it was more like the 10 min mark.

Depnds on how many folks ya'll bring. The people in the boxes have plenty of food and booze to amuse themselves long after the game is out of reach but they don't show up on television pans of the stadium. There's always a contingent that only attends one game a season who won't leave until the Tennessee Waltz plays so as to get the full game day experience. Throw in diehards who will stay no matter what and I'm gussing there will be 15-20K orange supporters in the stadium at game's end.

How dare you to schoff at our fans! If you had taken the time to ask, they'd have told you they were out of Geritol and had to get a new bottle before Walgreens closed.
