Shame on media. Butch taken out of context

Would it make anyone on this board happy if CBJ came out and said we did not meet expectations by not making it to ATL? This staff knows they blew it this year.

That's cute. "Champions of life" "Brick by Brick" "Tennessee Tough" "Very very" "Really really" "25pts" "Maturation process", blah blah blah. I get what you're saying and agree but honestly he had it coming with all his BS clichés and constant coach speak over the last 4 years. The dude is a walking cliché robot. I'm almost certain all the media hates interviewing him because its the same rhetoric crap week in and week out. Jones has cable.

Im mad because you left out some good ones: "Prideful young man" "resilient football team" "youngest football team in the country"...... Butch you would be more respected if you just spoke as if you were not reading a book on "how to speak"

His real intentions do not matter. He had to be smart enough to know how these things will come across.

It's corny and looks terrible.

Every single national outlet is making fun of him. He asked for it.

That's part of running a big time program. Especially one that cannot close the deal.

Every single national outlet made fun of Trump....is still making fun of Trump. Deservedly so?

Take it for what it's worth.

Some people are smart enough to filter through and process what they read and hear; most people aren't.

It's the age we live in.

At least I'm not the only one that sees his clichés as fools gold.

you're not wrong.

but it's up to Butch to figure out a way to communicate his message in a more effective manner....one that doesn't allow for the embarrassment of the last 24 hours.

Other than on here I haven't seen anything about it...

I hope he walks away at the end of the season with a middle finger in the air and UT hires Dooley back so you negavols can really have somethimg to b**#h about.

Everything you just typed took everything he said out of context.....again......more crap...........

It is not out of context. Asked directly about the SEC East Championship and being eliminated then CBJ goes into Bowl Championships and Individual Championships being part of the overall championship message. Instead of owning it, which was this years slogan, he diverts and comes up with other championships. If you listen to the whole press conference it is very clear he is trying to spin it to make it look like he didn't fail for his career aspirations. The Life Champions part doesn't bother me too bad but the blow back is well deserved for someone who is always spinning everything like a salesman. The next time he is honest with the fans will be the first.

This whole thing is a tempest in a teapot! The furor over Butch's comment was absolutely manufactured by disgruntled fans and media preying on their anger to drive them to the respective media outlet. I heard the entire interview and it was a typical CBJ presser. As for the notion that CBJ doesn't set Championsips on the field as the goal of the program, that's just ridiculous. He has said over and over that winning championships is the goal. Butch just seems to be very process driven and winning a championship is the "lag" measure and each game is more of a "leading" measure and it is where his focus continues to stay. None of this is worth getting your blood pressure up over.

Butch is damned if he does and damned if he dont. He makes an innocent comment and it gets blown out of proportion by idiots. The worst idiots are those Tennessee fans who thought it was stupid and a big deal. But hey, thats VN for ya.

I thought it was a decent thing for him to say actually. He's very proud of this senior class. As he should be. These guys have brought us from 5-7 to a possible 10 win season, record high cumulative gpa, pulled us from near sanction APRs and have continually represented UT with class. None of us are happy with not winning the east but I'm more proud to be a Vol today than I have been in quite some time.

GBMFO! And let's finish strong!

Somewhat. I think the most recent reactions are tied to his post game comments after UF won the east.

It doesnt just stem (at least with most) from just his comments. He could have made the most recent comments after winning the east and it gets very little reaction.

This has garnered a lot more attention that just VN.

While I agree that he is damned if he does and damned if he doesnt, this latest comment is not just being blown out of proportion by vols fans. The national media is hammering him, its all over. Even Greeny (Mike and mike) slammed him.

I can agree. I just think the post game comments after UF won were just ones he didnt want to hear at the time. I dont think any coach would want to. I would be willing to bet that nobody was more upset than Butch that Tennessee failed to win the East. I just think his comments have garnered way more attention than it deserved.

Agree 100%. Some idiot reporter(s) get it rolling, and other idiot outlets like SDS push it out, and of course, more people report this nonsense, it becomes absolute FACT. Got plenty of challenges, and OK...we didn't win the SEC E, but, we're sitting at 8-3, w/ chance to go 9-3 or even 10-3...not horrible compared to where we've been since 2008.

Interesting. But why was Butch not complaining when unfair media did not press him about his hiring of best staff in America which was clearly BS, and everyone knew it?

Yesterday was a firestorm of insults and belittling of Butch Jones. All he was clearly stating (if you actually read or listen to the comments) was about his Senior football players and their contribution to Tennessee's program. What they meant to him personally and it was framed around Senior Day.

In no way did he imply, suggest nor say that their team goals AREN'T to win "football championships". His comments were directly related to his Seniors and his relationship with them as people.

So shame on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville and 102.5 The Game for having an open discussion **** storm and trashing Butch when they were the one's to manipulate what was said and interpreted.

I get that radio is all about boosting numbers and listener-ship. But what they did yesterday in Nashville to Butch and again this morning was completely unprofessional and irresponsible. People are just fed up with it...........

I agree, I watched live and I didn't get any red flags at all from it. He was praising Dobbs for being such a great member of our community, directly to his parents who were at the conference. It was corny, but it was a genuine sincere moment on his part. I'm not a Butch cheerleader but it really was taken completely out of context.
