Yeah and those smaller schools basically depend entirely on booster funding to get anything. That's why it would be interesting to see if the court would rule these things to be separate entities or the athletic department to be the single entity.
When it came to Title IX, it was the entire athletic department. Which is why several men's sports were cut in order to comply with Title IX because there wasn't a women's sport that used 85 scholarships.
People haven't even considered what this would do to DII, DIII, FCS, etc.
People also don't know that you're right about profitability in general. Florida used to take it's extra profit and give it to the school library. But, this attitude that there is a Jerry Jones or a bunch of stockholders walking away with a bunch of loot is where the false premise begins.
Glad to hear that about Ramsey as Park Ranger suggested that one but said there has been little rain in area so falls might not be what we see in pictures. We fell in love with the park. We had our kids so we did Grotto Falls and Gatlinburg Trail. We ventured around to other places as well but kids enjoyed those hikes. Had three black bear on our cabin porch which was also a highlight. Hope to come back soon.I hike everywhere my top 5 faves are
1) Mt. Cammerer
2) Charlie's Bunion
3) Arch Rock Alum Cave to LeConte
4) Gregory Bald
5) Porter's Creek
My least fave is one alot of ppl love Ramsey's Cascades...Everytime I hike the trail it seems to be flooded...they need a foot bridge at that last stream before the falls...also I feel like I'm tripping over tree roots or crawling over rocks and it's just not very enjoyable to me....miss it we live on the gulf coast now and my hiking is generally walking around barrier islands or bogs
College sports may need to fail. The money involved has been growing exponentially and it was mentioned many times to be unsustainable. Universities bringing in $150M in revenue shouldn’t be breaking even or only making single digit profits. Coordinators shouldn’t be making $1M+ per year for amateur sports. There shouldn’t be 130 schools playing D1 football.
It may not be so bad for college sports to fail. A full reset might be what’s best overall.
Grotto Falls is an awesome hike...on certain days you can get there early and see the llama train going behind the falls on their trek up to restock LeconteGlad to hear that about Ramsey as Park Ranger suggested that one but said there has been little rain in area so falls might not be what we see in pictures. This whole stick it to the man thing is hilarious. Let’s stop paying good coaches? Sure let’s do that and watch them go out the door to the NFL. For this being a college sports message board with people that love UT sports there sure are a helluva lot of people hell bent on seeing college sports destroyed. This thread is interesting. Now the mantra is screw the colleges and their bloated budgets......yet everyone wants the school to back up the armored truck to their preferred candidate whenever there is a coaching change. Lol, can’t make this stuff up

Explain to me the rationale that a university could have any legal requirement to make any concessions whatsoever to college football players. They are not unionized employees. They aren’t employees at all.I meant- it’s complicated... if they decide they have to make concessions legally. It’s not like football can do much unilaterally as long as schools have to navigate the ncaa, Title IX etc.

It’s also the byproduct of a generation of indoctrination within our schools. Kids are no longer taught critical thinking skills. They are trained to conform to the new theology of wokeness. It’s pathetic and will lead to nothing but misery as there is no road to redemption or satisfaction with these people. That's what you do when you don't want to hold down a real job or have real accountability.
And wouldn't that mean that only a handful of schools would be able to pay these fees? Then you have an uneven playing field where the same teams will always be the top teams. That's not relevant. If I am an employee and the company doesn't make money, I expect to get paid for the work that I did. So, the principle is ....is this employment or not.
The....well, schools didn't used to make money so it was ok. But, now, they make money, so I want mine is BS.
That's another part of this that people haven't thought through. If it's employment at the University of Florida, it's employment at Mississippi Valley State.
And with that thought, it's employment in high school.
A cashier at Mom and Pop Hardware store is entitled to be paid the same way a cashier at Home Depot is entitled to be paid. The fact that one business barely breaks even and the other is a massive corporation doesn't change the fact that both are employees and both need to be paid.
So, what this sets up is a small number of schools who can pay and a whole bunch of schools who can't.
...the players’ scholarships are revoked. They get a rude awakening when they discover what life in the real world is like. The universities replace the players with athletes that want to play football in return for an athletic scholarship. Life goes on.They don't have a legal one but if the players stand together and refuse to play under these idiotic conditions...

I couldn’t imagine a world without sports.Sports, quite frankly for me, is on a slippery slope as it is. All i need is one good reason to cast it from me as far as the East is from the West. The last 10 years or so I have not missed the NBA or the NFL one little bit. In fact I've found that its quite liberating. I would have considered myself a sports addict at one time in my life. I can drop this nonsense in a heartbeat, walk away, and never ever look back. And by the discussions I've had with dozens of people lately there's many in the same proverbial boat.
You were a UT fan for the last 12 years. You’ve already proved that you’ll watch a sub-par team.Sure with a lot of high school can'tbees and 3rd string cousins of ADS, wow, I'll be running to the TV for that.
