Several better runners in SEC than Bo Jackson, including Jamal Lewis.

Just to throw out a couple things. Walker was much more expected to carry the load than Jackson. The most carries Bo had in a season was 278 as a Sr. The FEWEST Walker had 274 as a Fr. In fact Walker had more carries in just his So year, 385, than Jackson had his Fr, So and Jr years combined. And for those hung up on ypc with Jackson consider his Heisman year another very talented Auburn back, Brent Fullwood, averaged a full ypc more. In fact the next season when he became the primary RB he averaged 8.3ypc on 167 carries.

Also while Bo was very fast for a football player, 10.44 100m, Walker was faster still with a 10.23. And it wasn't just top end as Walker's best 55m time was not only faster than Jackson's it was faster than Willie Gault at that distance.

Things to ponder.

The difference in the surrounding cast isn't even close. I'm not knocking Smith, but Payton had nowhere close to the line, QB or receivers as he had.

Neither did Sanders. Having a great team around you doesn't make you less great. Mean Joe Greene would have been equally great without all of the HOFers surrounding him...just translated to more Super Bowl wins. For one season, Payton had the best team in football. His 1000 plus yards definitely didn't mean less.

I think some in this thread are failing to understand the main word in the OPs title.

It was too much fun messing with huffhine's Lebron athletic greatness theory to mention that it had nothing to with SEC running backs. :)

And McFadden shared carries with Felix Jones AND Peyton Hillis - 2 guys with solid NFL careers - his whole time at Arkansas and still ran for over 1100 his freshmen year, 1600 and 1800+ his sophomore and junior years. McFadden also ran in a West division stacked with good defenses. There is NO comparison between Webb and McFadden.

Why don't you "fade route" from this board. It's obvious you are not a Vol fan.

Cobb had a better pro career than dmac lulz

(I'm trolling BTW)

Garrison Hearst is probably the most underrated or talked about stud SEC running backs of all time. Averaged over 6 yards a carry 3400 yards. 11 games in 1992 1500 yards 19 TDs rushing. Before he was injured in the NFL he was the total package.

Obvious "fade route" didn't see the 1990 Cotton Bowl.

During the time McFadden played, the SEC West wasn't near as tough as it has been the last several yrs. ole miss and state wasn't all that great, AM wasn't in the league and Alabama, the bell cow now of college football was very average until Saban.

My personal opinion of course, but I didn't think McFadden was even the best RB on his team. I've always thought Jones was the better of the two.

Kevin Faulk was one of the best ever. Still leads the league in total yards from the position IIRC.

No one can touch Jackson or Walker though in the tv era.

Much as I love all the Vols(excluding Foster) going back to Johnnie Jones, very few of those guys were able to put 4 outstanding seasons together in the SEC.

Just for fun, Lebron vs Bo

100m - Bo
200m - push
400m - Lebron
800m - Lebron
1600m - Lebron
Long jump - Lebron
High jump - Lebron
Triple jump - Lebron
Pole Vault - Bo
Javelin - Bo
Discus - push
Shotput - Bo
Are you kidding me? Jackson probably could've had a career at track. Why don't we just take any athletic really tall guy and make him the better track athlete?

Boy, I forgot about Faulk.

Reminded me of a Eric Dickerson type back.

Well, i've never heard of a 230 lb 6' 1" who could run a great 400.

Jackson was built for the 40 and the 100. That's it.

Jackson ran a 10.44 100m...that's not even close to world class speed.

If he had focused on track and trimmed up, he maybe competes at 100m, but i highly doubt 200m.

In addition to running the football, McFadden returned kicks and threw passes out of the wildcat. He split carries with 2 future NFL guys, played in the SEC West with loaded defenses that stacked the box because Arkansas couldn't throw the ball worth a crap, and still had 2 seasons better than any UT back in history. Sorry, I love Webb as much as the next guy, but it ain't close. McFadden >>>>>>>>>>Webb.

Webb was better. It's not even close.
