Several better runners in SEC than Bo Jackson, including Jamal Lewis.

There are no running backs in the history of the SEC that compare with Walker and B. Jackson. Darren McFadden is the only one that comes remotely close in my mind. Jamal was good, just not in their class.

Agreed, although I would put Leonard Fournette at a distant 3rd ahead of Darren McFadden. Fournette's carried LSU's offense for three years against stacked fronts with absolutely no help from his teammates, and even playing through injuries he has comparable overall stats and a better per carry average (6.2 to 5.8 yds/att) than McFadden.

No, Matt Jones played before McFadden

I knew it wasn't Matt Jones. Him and D Mac on the same field would've been dirty. But my point was, D Mac was basically the entire offense. Houston Nutt gave him the ball 90% of the time. But to his credit he made the plays.

In addition to running the football, McFadden returned kicks and threw passes out of the wildcat. He split carries with 2 future NFL guys, played in the SEC West with loaded defenses that stacked the box because Arkansas couldn't throw the ball worth a crap, and still had 2 seasons better than any UT back in history. Sorry, I love Webb as much as the next guy, but it ain't close. McFadden >>>>>>>>>>Webb.

I've said it before, closet hog.

IMO, there was Herschel Walker and then there was everyone else............. Simply the BEST of all time!

I get what you're saying, but you can't just gloss over the insanity of actually playing and contributing in two major professional sports leagues.

Deion and Brian Jordan were both great athletes, especially Deion, played 2 sports, and literally no one puts them in best athlete category. Nobody would pick them over Lebron.

Bo's legend grew because he got hurt.

Well if you're going to bet a lot of money? What other fictional scenarios could we wager on? How about Shaq as a hockey goalie? :)

I would guess Shaq has never played hockey and Lebron was all state as a sophomore, didn't play his senior year and i guarantee you any school would have taken him. He was highly touted.

How would you "guarantee" that exactly? Fictional scenarios...and don't tell me Shaq couldn't just squat in front of the goal and dominate. :)

This comment makes me think you might have been a little to young to remember much about Bo Jackson.

Yeah Campbell was a battering ram. He wasn't Barry Sanders and wasn't going to do some physics-defying, change directions in midair stuff. He was going to get upfield and hurt anyone in his way. If there are categories, he's right there on top of power running.

It's 6 feet across. What is Shaq? 3' wide? There is little chance he would be good. Goalies have to be super quick, even the biggest goalie.

I disagree. And all of my acquired fictional science backs me up. :neener:

I was young, but i remember watching him and i've watched the docs and the highlights blah blah blah.

Bo played 38 nfl games and he was awesome and he was a two sport athlete.

Deion is the best corner ever and a two sport athlete.

Only one of these guys is in the best athlete convo and it's because we never actually got to see what Bo became. You can't do any better than what Deion did in football, but we know exactly what he is, so our imagination doesn't run wild.

There are a lot of guys who hit the nfl making waves and are fading out by year 5. We never got to see what Bo was gonna do. He might have been remembered as the strikeout king, for all we know.

Not what he was going to do...saw what he DID. Better in baseball than Deion or Jordan and in a small sample, a revolutionary talent in football It shouldn't be legal to be that fast with so much mass. If there had been camera phones and social media outlets, there's no doubt his "legend" would have been documented. As is, he'd just be screwing around and run up a wall or break a bat on his neck or knee. Once in a generation athlete...no one else comes close.

He hit for power and he had a good glove, but low average, obp, and tons of strikeouts.

Deion was only a little better at hitting, but Deion put football first. He never played 100 games. Bo put in a lot more time and wasn't any better than prime time.

No need for camera phones, nfl films has every run.

We saw different games apparently. He was an all-star and Deion never sniffed it. Deion's best stretch was in that Braves first World Series run. As soon as the pitchers figured him out, he was below average. He really only played baseball because he hated football training camp.

Willie Gault played football, runs track, AND rode in the back of a bobsled. Multisport GOAT... the bobsled riding is his trump card. Well, Bo is an archer too I guess.

When we 're talking "legend", I'm talking about when HIS began. NFL films didn't have a crew stationed at his Alabama high school or at Auburn. You know those fun highlights that start on Twitter and end up on ESPN? How many of his did we miss? :)
