Seven home games added to Tennessee's future schedule

I'm pretty excited about the WVU and GT games. I went to a WVU game in Morgantown while I was in college with one of my buddies and it was an absolute blast. Those fans love their team and know how to enjoy a college football game. Also, GT is someone we should play a lot more often.

Looks like we learned our lesson scheduling tough teams like Oregon, Oklahoma. SEC schedule is tough enough, I'll take cream puffs all day long and throw a VT or a WV in there to mix things up. Untill OSU and Ala do it on a consistent basis, we need to schedule smart.

Huh? They both do.

Ohio State played Virgina Tech in 2014 and 2015, play Oklahoma this year and in 2017, TCU and Oregon State in 2018, TCU in 2019, Oregon in 2020 and 2021, Notre Dame and Texas in 2022, and Notre Dame + Texas + Boston College in 2023. And that's with a schedule where they only get 3 out of conference games max - they play 9 conference games now - and no FCS games.

Alabama played Clemson in 2008, Virginia Tech in 2009, Penn State in 2010 and 2011, Michigan in 2012, Virginia Tech in 2013, West Virgina in 2014 and Wisconsin in 2015, and plays USC this year, Florida State in 2017, and Louisville in 2018.

OSU certainly does it to a greater extent than Alabama, though.

Good grief! There's a lot of people getting worked up over nothing. UT always has 3 easy games on its schedule. This is what happens with the addition of the 12th game....an extra cupcake.

Might as well just play in the Southern Conference! These non non conference games are a joke and an embarrassment!

It appears that sometimes, stupid just can't be stopped. It just rolls on and on, like a mudslide down a hollow in the Kentucky hills.

Yeah I know ETSU will get a lot of money for it, but I don't think the program will have been around long enough to make that game anything close to competitive.

There are some TN high schools that could beat ETSU right now. Hopefully they'll improve

I know we still have one P5 to announce for '19 and '20 but I still don't love this. This is why I would rather go to a 9-game conference schedule. We only get college football 4 months out of the year. I don't want a whole month of that to essentially be cupcake teams.

Even our OOC opponents in the P5 aren't much to sneeze at over the next few years. GA Tech is a good name, but they are in a rough spot right now. Pitt is terrible and if we keep our momentum up for the next 6 years those will be wins. West Virginia is a sleeper for sure, probably the best of the bunch, but still unknown.

With a tradition like TN, I would really like to see us schedule a Notre Dame, Michigan, Clemson, FSU, etc. caliber of opponent when it comes to name and talent. All I know is these weak schedules better lead to some playoff seasons.

I get WHY we do it, but I just want to have more quality UT games to watch, that's all.

Why not add some half decent teams instead of these no name creampuffs?? These will all be blowouts.

Exactly, with the patsy P5 ooc team, and the always weak SEC slate, it's amazing the AD can't find any decent competition for us.

The Mocs will get hammered in 2019, but at least I'll be able to watch my grandson play in Neyland Stadium. How bloody cool is that?

Super cool. But, never forget. Chattanooga has beaten UT more times than Texas A&M. A valuable stat. :)

We should be playing at least one competitive non-conference game every year. Maybe the Vols will--but it won't be among this group of snoozers. The SEC has always been tough, and we have a tradition of playing at least one big-name OC game--Oklahoma last year, as an example. Let's keep that tradition going. Intersectional big games are always exciting. Some of our games with Notre Dame were fantastic.

I like the fact that UT schedules a top-flight (at least try) each season in the current scheme of conference play.

But, I would love to see 3-4 big (read P5) matchups with a national non-conference schedule. Cut the current conference schedule to 5-6 with a common rivalry (AL) opponent. I know it's completely a pipe dream. It's just that UT v UCLA or Oregon or OU, even Indiana, Texas, AZState, Nebraska, or Maryland would just be flat out interesting to me. It's just really cool to play a national schedule, instead of aaaaaanother game vs UK, or Vandy, or even UGA, or UF.

JMO. All pie in the sky too.
