First of all, please forgive me for my stupidity on the subject and dumb down the answer as much as possible.

I have a Linksys wireless router that I am using for my laptop and wouldn't mind trying to figure out how to play online. How difficult would it be to setup online play and what would I have to do?

Plug an ethernet cable into your router and then run it to your PS2.

If you want to do it wirelessly, I'd say you're probably looking at more trouble than it's worth.

The ethernet cable would probably be troublesome since the router is on the complete opposite end of the house than the PS2. How difficult is it to do wirelessly?

Tried it, but I wouldn't recommend it since it's complicated. You have to hook up an ethernet crossover cable from your laptop to your ps2 and bridge your local area connection with your wireless connection on your laptop. I did this and was able to get online, but almost every game i played i was kicked off in the 1st or second quarter when i was hooked up this way. I might try to fix this later on, but as of right now, i'm satisifed with hooking up through the router.

Doesn't sound like much fun. I may just have to find a loooong ethernet cable.

If you don't mind dropping a few bucks, you can go with other solutions.

Logitech Play Link Wireless Network Extender for xBox, PS2 and GameCube - 965149-0403 - I'm running this setup on an old laptop in the house. Works just as it should.

There's also ones that work off your electric system in the house. Homeplug is one of the companies offering this type of solution.

There's also just a plain wireless bridge, which acts the same at the logitech setup I posted, except that it's picking up your wireless router instead of transfering info from an ethernet cable.

Before dropping cash, might want to set up your system near the router and try online play with it. EA is dropping some server support very soon for some PS2 games. Not sure how crowded other games are nowdays...but I bet Socom is still getting played a lot.

Or you could do like me!

The main router is down the stairs for me, and i'd have to atleast get a 15 ft cord to reach the play station to my den.. lol.. So i got a small tv set it up out of the way in the den and hook it up, kind of in the way, but my parents don't care as long as i get everything out of the way when im done.. haha.. :):p
