Any of you guys have an idea of which way to go? I've thought about getting the adapter but hate forking over the $100 for it. I'll get it if I have to but would like to know if there's a cheaper or a free alternative that will get a good connection. I'm aware that there's a way to get a connection up and running using an ethernet powerline, but not many retailers carry these. In the past i've tried using my laptop (which has wireless) as a means to achieve this by bridging my LAN and wireless connections but it rarely ever works and when it does, it has a horrible connection.

My question is which route do you guys suggest for those of you that have a 360 set up wirelessly? Are there any alternatives? Also, for those of you thar have the wireless adaptar, is it worth it? Feedback would be appreciated.

I've been using a Netgear powerline while at home and I've always had a very good connection with it. I just looked at the price on Bestbuy.com and it was $200. My dad bought it so not sure how much he paid for it but I thought he said he only paid around $90. I'll give him a call tomorrow and see where he got it and how much he paid if I can remember to. I'd like to know how the wireless adapter works too. I may dish out for it in the future.

it's either that or keep going the inconvenient route. since my xbox is upstairs and my pc downstairs, there's really no way to just hook it up so this is really looking like the only way to go for me.

i have trouble getting it to connect in the dorms at college too, but i've mainly given up on that. stupid firewall.:banghead2:

As long as you have a good connection from your ISP, this will not be a problem. I assume you currently have a router already, so all I had to do was plug these bad boys in the wall, plug a CAT5 cable from my router to one, plug another CAT5 cable from the other one to my 360, and I was up and running in less than 2 minutes from opening them. Didn't even have to setup anything on my router. Pretty simple.

Yes our powerline is used for the pc in our basement and I'll just grab it from down there, take it up to my room, plug it in and plug the ethernet cord in and I'm golden. It's pretty convenient if you have to migrate it.

at home, yes i have a router downstairs. in the dorms, though, i have my ethernet cable running into an ethernet jack in the wall. i have no router with me there.

So you would buy two of these? One to go from your router and the other to go to the system?

Gotcha, that's what I wansn't sure of, how many came in a pack. So it looks like you can get them for about $80 for a pair?

Actually that was misleading, it is just one in there. I got my Netgear for around $100 for the pair from Staples. Would buy the Linksys I listed though if I could have found them.

Wireless is all about signal and even with a good signal (90%) you will still look at a 20-40ms delay. On average with a good signal you will have an average ping of around 80-150ms depending on you ISP. If you have that type of ping you will have some lag around 100ms and it just gets worse when you get higher.

I have my router by my entertainment center... I have a wireless card in my desktop, but that is terribly unreliable, so I just ran a 50 ft. CAT5 to the desktop. :)

do the crossover cables get a better connection than regular ethernet cables? i have one but only got it for bridging my 360 to my laptop.

A crossover is just for a direct connection between peripherals. A router does the crossover internally.

is it THAT bad though? i'll be fine with it as long as it doesn't interfere with stuff like aiming. i've heard good reviews of wireless and bad. i just want to make sure that i'll at least get a decent connection before i make a decision on this.

You will get similar performance to using your laptop as a bridge.

guess there's always option b.....somehow connect my 360 to my router downstairs:ermm:

You can definitely find some crazy length ethernet cords out there. My buddy has one, not sure exactly how long it is, but we stretch it through 3 floors with room to spare.

well, after much thought i coughed up the 100 bucks for the wireless adapter. i'm glad i did. it took awhile, but after some tinkering with the router settings, it works like a charm.:)
