Virus, Virus, Virus. Pisses me off. It gave one of my PC at school the Virus. This is normally for the OT board, but this board gets more traffic, and everyone needs to know about it. (most probably already know).

If you can, download the program malwarebytes. It's free and gets rid of that nasty "security" virus.

Figured most PCs at schools would have some sort of protection (antivirus, spyware etc)

Get a Mac...No Virus!

Actually, malware for Mac is starting to pop up in increasing amounts. I just wonder how the security bulletins keep out of the public eye like the comparable Windows ones.

Trojan X will be here before you know it, and I'm afraid the Mac world will be unprepared.

I have a Mac and a PC. I enjoy them both; they're two sides of the same coin. Sooner or later, both sides are bound to get dirty and scuffed.

lock down your comp/browser and don't just click any link that you see. It's not that hard to avoid or take care of

I've come across that thing in the past, and what I'd do is go straight into Task Manager (ALT+CTRL+DELETE) and find it in under the Processes tab...then kill it.
From there, run your anti-virus and/or Malware removal software. That thing is like stealing your car and trying to sell it back to you. Why would you purchase an anti-virus program from someone who just hit you with a virus?

Can't say I've ever had one from Rivals and any other recruiting website for that matter. Always got mine from Facebook.

"X" out of all pop-ups. That may help. Get a good malware program.

The one that fake tells you that your computer is infected and starts redirecting you to all sorts of crap with popups like crazy? Tries to get you to buy some software to fix it?

I got that one off of a Drudgereport-linked article. Had to have the offsite computer guru's deal with it. What a pain.

It's not targeted for viruses is why. It's not because MAC's are inherently more safe...they are just not worth going after for the punks that write these viruses. MAC's represent a pitifully low percentage of the computer market, and for the same reason they aren't a target for hackers, they also are the last to get software upgrades/updates...new software (unless it's made by Apple...like FinalCut) titles, etc.

They're ALWAYS...ALWAYS b!tching, "When are we going to see it on the MAC?!"...yet they are going boast about how superior the MAC is. Go figure.

Git yo'self a MAC...It's Over-priced and Over-rated

Also too...go to mozilla.com and download Firefox. Use that as your browser. Fewer vulnerabilities than Internet Explorer (hackers target IE), and it's faster. It's all I've used for over a year now.

How many decades have Mac users had to listen to the lament of obnoxious PC users arguing that -- just wait, you mac users will soon be targeted by malware? It gets old. Really, it does.

Mac Fanboy alert!

I kid, but as Macs gain more market share the likelihood of malware running rampant will increase. Hackers know this and when the big one hits it will be nasty. There's already viruses out there for Macs just nothing large scale. It's always good to have protection just in case.

MAC users are the ones that are obnoxious. PC users don't have the inferiority complex that MAC users seem to have...and out of that complex, they feel a burning compulsion to sell everyone on the superior benefits of owning what they have.

I've never heard PC users having to boast...because most people they run into already own a PC. It's MAC users that pipe up with their annoying little antics....just like they did before I posted anything in retaliation.

I hate the Mac guy. I also can't stand the AT&T guy. Look, how good is 3G if there is not a cell tower near your area. I hate AT&T.

And, I was glad when the Dell guy was arrested and fired.

I honestly don't give a flip what someone owns....but any discussion/argument about MAC/PC ALWAYS starts with MAC users carping about how superior it is. They really do have an inferiority complex. No other way to explain it.

If I had a dollar for everytime I've heard or read a MAC user whine about not having a certain software title yet available for the MAC...or an upgrade, etc....I'd be wealthy enough to retire.

Get a Mac...No Virus!

i have been a mac user since 1993, and if you think macs can't be affected then you have been watching too many of those stupid apple vs PC commercials.

put down the Steve Jobs Kool Aid friend.
Apple is not that awesome.

I'm on there every day and have no idea why people are still complaining about this. Get better protection.

google chrome.

it's beautiful here.

Google Chrome is great, but half of the time these days it doesn't load sites correctly. I know a few people that deal with the same mess. Now I just go back and forth between that and Firefox.

exactly

The hackers and virus authors go after windows because they have the potential to affect 90% of the computers by targeting them. They are not going to waste their time with 4% of the market. Not to mention they probably don't own macs to begin with so how would they even go after them without one.

Mac users and their holier than thou attitudes have always rubbed me the wrong way. To each their own. If they like them then more power to them, but don't act like you are better than anyone because of what kind of computer you own.

I have my reasons for liking my pcs and will never own a mac even though I could get one free if I wanted one.

I mentioned it before in another thread. Go to http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download and get their free antivirus software and don't worry about anything. It is top notch. I have been using it on all of my computers for around 8 years or so and have never had a problem.
