I live in Southeastern NC and ECU football is heavily covered by our media. The 11 pm sportscast just mentioned that Skip Holtz would probably be gone at the end of the season and the rumor was that he would be wearing Tennessee orange next year. According to a source in the Football office, there was a private phone call from area code 865 placed to Holtz today. The phone call lasted over an hour. I hope this is true. I have followed ECU the past two years, and Holtz is a tough SOB.

just a little note for everyone...a certain William Parcells recv'd a phone call from a number identified as 865-555-1212, he stayed on the phone for nearly 3 mins, and it is said that he could come in to knoxville, and maybe stay a night in a hotel there. Just for those information junkies, this is said to be almost, uncertainly not , the absolute truth so you can take it for what it is worth.

I live in Rocky Mount and have NOT heard anything like that. While ECU AD Terry Holland did ink Holtz to a long term contact at the beginning of the season it has NO BUYOUT CLAUSE. My only concern is how he'd be able to recruit 4 and 5 star players on a national scale after getting the pick of the litter of partial qualifiers in NC.

Very true. Whatever coach we get next must be able to know how to recruit nationally and be on a continuous big stage week in and week out. Clawson is a perfect example of what happens to a small school coach coming to a big stage. I think Holtz would eventually do well, but he would struggle for a few years IMO, because Tennessee fans want to win NOW. I don't know if he can handle that kind of pressure coming from ECU. Personally, I would like a Lane Kiffin hire based on his California and NFL connections.

Just heard a rumor that Vince Lombardi's mummy was offered the head coaching position at the University of Tennessee...

I would support the hiring of Lombardi. Sure, he's been away from the game for a few years, but he's tanned, rested, and ready. Better dead than any man alive.
