Serious question: is hostessgate an issue anymore?

Fulmer knew immediately after the USCe game he was canned.

He didn't tell the players. It's a bush league move by Fulmer to have his players find out by ESPN's ticker.

Justin, I totally agree that was bush league by Fulmer, but couldn't Hamilton have kept the players out of that presser? The timing of the event set up the likelihood for such negative PR.

I wasn't there, but I recall that you were. So, you may be able to help me get over this with the right response. I wanted him fired after the UCLA game as you may recall, and had been a strong supporter until then.

Also, as you probably know, I've admitted the end of 2005 was an opportunity to make a move, but I didn't think it was the best move at the time. I wouldn't have protested had a 'proven coach' been hired at the end of that season... and there were some available as I recall.

That's all hindsight, now, but an AD 'in the know' in 2005 should have had access to information about the program that we 'typical' fans did not. If there is a view that he should have been fired in 2005. why isn't Hamilton held accountable by those who felt that way (donors?)?

I don't remember negative press from anyone who mattered. The most negative it got was after the next weekend's game. It was a decision that had to be made and he made it. Good grief people will complain about anything

Fulmer's farewell presser got more airtime than anything since the NC. Heck, I don't know if we got that much out of it. It was a huge and memorable 'black eye' on the program on the national level (where we recruit).

He refutes the players caused a disruption in the press conference.

Hamilton couldn't have done much other than have security lead the players out. It would have really been a circus then.

Fulmer wanted those guys there to speak out against Hamilton.

After the 2005 season, Fulmer still had leeway with boosters. Hamilton didn't have the financial backing to get rid of him. You can't really blame Hamilton for that.

The ridiculous contract extension after 07 falls at Hamilton's feet though.

He's wrong about that, of course. If I could take back anything televised about UT football in my lifetime, that presser would be it.

Thanks, Justin. I'll try to keep my mind from going down that path again and stick to other Hamilton criticisms.

Cheers! :hi:

I don't think that was the case. the AD didn't get the okay to act until Monday morning of the announcement. The AD informed the HC the previous evening he was seeking approval to act so statement could not have been made after game by the HC.

He certainly knew after the game as a staff they were in trouble but at that point no decision had been made. Wasnn't made until Monday.

Hmmm.... I need agreement from the insiders so I can bash the correct people. :hi:

Was PJ involved in any way, to your knowledge?

I assume he was expecting the worst.

He had to know it was coming.

no he didn't know at that point. he felt he had enough backing to prevent it from happening.

Even on Sunday night he was convinced he could survive the process the AD was pursuing.

He found out noon Monday he could not..

You really should write a book of your memoirs on UT football. I'll commit to buying 20 copies in advance.

He figured out Thunder doesn't have as much power as he thought.

Isn't that more the reason to wait, then?

I think it happened when it did because the replacement had already been contacted. would have looked even worse, I suspose, had that leaked before decision on the incumbant or announcement on the incumbant
