Serious here.... I think Jeremy Pruitt should be the next head coach.

Jeremy Pruitt (born May 28, 1974) is the defensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.[1] He was the secondary coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide from 2010 to 2012 and won two national championships. Pruitt left Alabama and became Florida State's defensive coordinator in 2013, where he won a third national championship with the Seminoles.[2] In his only season as defensive coordinator, his defense was 1st in the nation in scoring defense (10.7 ppg), 3rd in the nation in total defense (248.2 ypg), 2nd in the nation in passing defense, and 1st in the nation in interceptions (26). Pruitt was a 2013 finalist for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation's top college football assistant coach, and is again a finalist in 2016.. He played college football at Middle Tennessee and Alabama.

I think we should pass on this opportunity. Although, we could do worse and have in the recent past. Any hire is a crap shoot and success is never a guarantee but I would like to see us get a coach with head coach experience.

Pruitt created major locker room problems when he was at Georgia a few years ago under Mark Richt. Those problems were one of the reasons Mark Richt was forced to exit. Also worth noting that Kirby Smart (wisely IMO) chose not to retain Pruitt.

I'd compare Pruitt to Lane Kiffin. Pruitt is an excellent DC with a great track record on the defensive side when he can be reigned in by a strong, mature coach. As a head coach, however, his personality flaws would become a much bigger issue. Part of Mark Richt's failure his last two seasons at UGA was his inability to reign in Pruitt.

People underestimate how much of Saban's brilliance is simply being able to manage difficult personalities.

I think he's done a better job scheme wise at Bama than Smart ever did.

He did get along with Richt? Who gives a ****. He would be the boss not a subordinate.

Ehh but how much of that is actually fact? I get he can be a hard ass but stories tend to be overblown more often then not.

Really! This same crap happened when we got Butch. If Gruden comes that’s great! How long has it been since he coached? Has he had success as a college coach. Why would he leave a million dollar commentators salary to have to recruit college athletes! Gruden is not coming to TN but to spen time with family and watch a game or two.

Gruden would be a gigantic failure as head coach at UT. He will never be the HC for the vols, so, all his Gruden talk is not only useless but makes UT fans look silly.

While I agree he's not coming you can't say he'd be a failure without actually seeing it first.

No....Here is the scenario that I think will play out.

UT will lose today to Kentucky. Butch will be canned and an interim will be named. (Shoop, Hoke or Fulmer)

UT will go after home run hire. (Gruden, Patterson). If that doesn't work out then with Manning's influence, they will lure Cutcliffe back to right the ship. He isn't a home run hire, he is steady though, but isn't long term plan.

Cut will coach for 4-5 more years and try to groom his OC as the future coach. Offensively UT will be top 20. QBs and OL will be much better. He will keep Gillespie and get rid of the rest. Not sure on Shoop or Defensively who stays.

Definitely a possibility: He has great coaching credentials as well.

My biggest concern is the last time we hired a Sabanite, it didn't work out well (Dooley).
