Serious concerns going into SEC play

Why would anyone say that Dobbs can't get the ball downfield? We don't throw the ball down the field--or two our wideouts! We hardly throw it at all. We did not throw one pass to a TE last night! No slants, no creativity. When we do try to throw it downfield, the pass protection breaks down quickly. Our OL play has not been good--and I absolutely hate DeBord's schemes and play-calling. I've never liked this offense. We rely on individuals to make great athletic plays. That doesn't work too well against good defenses as we will find out against florida and bama.

Yes, we did. Croom was targeted twice that I can remember. Had one catch. The TE's spent most of their time BLOCKING because of our o-line struggles. You can't run routes if you're blocking linemen and LBs.

We can't really go downfield because our O-line can't be trusted to block long enough to let a play develop. How many times did VaTech get pressure rushing THREE PEOPLE. You're gonna go deep against 8 men dropped back in coverage when you have two seconds to throw? Stupidity.

DeBords schemes and playcalling were good for 35+ PPG last year. A good o-line and this offense will come alive.

I still have us going 9-3, mainly because of our lack of a passing game. UF, UGA, A&M and Bama will be a tough stretch. Hopefully we'll go at least 2-2 and then run the table after that and finish 10-2. But until I see we can beat Florida I'm sticking with 9-3.

I don't think Dobbs is a good downfield passer, but it does make it even harder with the lack of pass protection and with our OC.

Serious concerns; coming out of the gate fired up (I'd give Sheiron Jones a game ball), Dobbs so-so passing will not win a National Championship (I'd start Dormandy Ohio game for a half and Jones second half), Stoops pulling OBrien on third downs last night resulted in three first downs in a row. I am very pleased with better receiver play if we can get them the ball, Hurd/Kamara when we can block, Dobbs when he finds a crease and takes off, decent kicking game, turnover hungry defense, winning...yes, winning. GBO!

I agree.

The entire offensive coaching staff needs replacing, HORRIBLE! Kids come in and play as freshmen and we think "he's gonna be great next yr" and 1 season in our system and they go backwards. Our Coacing staff have no business in the SEC

Vols Oline couldn't block a 3 man rush, go figure?
I have a feeling there will be allot of up's and down's with team 120, don't you?

This team is not winning the east.

Hope I am wrong but it is hard to believe I am.
In that case, who will? The team that struggled with UMass? The team that nearly lost to a 3-8 FCS school?

It's fun seeing all of the fans who have tried to have it both ways when talking about us and when talking about the strength of our opponents.

The offense is Butchs. Debo just selects the calls

This isn't completely true. We've seen a lot of small changes in the run game and blocking scheme since Debord took over for Bajakian.

It's still Butch's offense, but Debord's fingerprints are on the run game for sure.

You are correct. Debord has designed some really interesting run block schemes.

Exactly I've said it 100 times they are playing very soft to not show anything to those sec teams! Anybody that does not think we are better than what we are showing with this talent is delusional!! Watch what happens starting with Florida! People will be surprised at just how good we are starting with that game. CBJ is not stupid and knows what he is doing. He opned up just a little bit last night and people saw the outcome. The best is yet to come!

Getting that close to App St and having 50 total yards in first quarter against VT was not a design. Online, Dobbs, and Debord all share in those outcomes. We are looking better though.
