I would not mind playing Auburn, they really are not that good of a team. Hell Georgia almost beat them last year and now they don't even have Cam. Auburn 8-4 2011

I would rather play Bama 3 times than the cheaters once. Screw auburn, and vop

Trust me Alabama is just as crooked. Their history of probation proves that. Not sure their is a more crooked state as far as cheating goes.

I just feel bad that we can't slap the barn around a little more. I think we have the series lead, but they have got about 5 or 6 straight on us.

I been wondering, would anybody like to see a regular rivalry game between Tennessee and the Barn.

Nah, I like the current rotating system. Adding AU would decrease the amount of wins we could rack up against MSU and Ole Miss

I recall UT finishing 1st in 2007 and 2nd in 2009. Several years is an exaggeration.

Maybe a little, but they'll likely all finish better than us this year, so it's going to be hard for you to argue that since '08, the overall body of work for UF, UGA, and USCjr is superior to our own. That makes 4 years that those teams will have been better than us, and close to half of decade of being better than us qualifies as "several" to me.

South Carolina has arguably the best coach in SEC history after the General and the Bear. Their sudden, slightly above average play, is temporary. And regardless of whatever methods you use, the fact is South Carolina wasn't better than us as recently as 2009. It's hard to say several years.

I will have to say that one of the most satisfying wins I've ever witnessed was 1985 when we beat #1 Auburn and hit Bo Jackson so hard so often that he yanked himself from the game.

They've absolutely dominated us on the field in 2 of the past 3 years. Considering that they have one of the top Qb's in the conference as well as arguably the SEC's best running back and receiver, and we seem to lose another defensive player each week, it's hard to see us competing with them this year either. As much as it sucks to say it, the recent trend is that South Carolina has, at least over the past few seasons, become a better football program than UT.

Looking at the past two years, we're 1-1 and their win certainly wasn't more impressive.

Nope

By what qualifiable means is UT a better football program that South Carolina as of today? They have a better, infinitely more respected coach than we do, even by your own admission. They are the defending SECE champs and enter this season as one of the favorites if not the clear frontrunner to represent the east in Atlanta again this year. They had their way with UT in 2 of the past 3 meetings, and will likely handle us with little trouble again this year. That'll be 3 out of 4 years.

I realize that USCjr was the butt of jokes from UT fans for years, but at some point you have to accept a little dose of reality. We haven't been ranked in the top 25 in over 3 years, while SC has been there consistently in recent seasons. The fact that they sucked for 100 years has little to do with the current state of things.

Look at it this way. They've spent over a decade under the leadership of future Hall of Fame coaches and they don't have a damn thing to show for it. The haven't won anything of note, ever. They'll have a chance to get back to Atlanta this year. However, Spurrier will likely retire very soon, and then they're likely screwed.

If the original question is asking if you would prefer them instead of Bama, I can't imagine anyone actually being in favor of it.

I agree with this 100%, but that's all in the future. The original post this all started from was a guy who said we were the 3rd best team in the East, and that's just not true right now. As of today, and as of this coming football season, there are 3 teams in the east who are definitively better than us, and as a general rule, it's been that way since 2008. (a few years ago, maybe not several, depending on your definition of several)

The thing is you said they have been better than us for several years. I can't really agree with that. If you want to say their best 6 years ever have been about even with (or slightly better than) our worst 6 years ever, then I would agree.

My thoughts exactly. South Carolina might field a better team next season, but to act as if their program has eclipsed ours is ridiculous.

Fair enough. It's all coming to the semantics of the word several. Perhaps I misused it. So I'll say this so there is no question. South Carolina has been a better football team than us since 2008. There was one season that we beat them down, but the two teams ended up with the same records. However there were also 2 seasons that they flat out manhandled us on the field, and finished with 2-3 more wins than we did.
