Since we can pretty much write off a normal 2020 college football season, let's do something to take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime situation.

SEPTEMBER MADNESS

Seed all 130 FBS teams from 1 to 130.

Week 1, have #127 vs #130 and #128 vs #129. The winners get re-seeded to #127 and #128.

Next seed the entire 128 teams into a playoff bracket. #1 vs 128, #2 vs #127, etc.

Week 2, all teams play. Winners advance in the bracket, losers go to the losers bracket. Make it a double elimination format.

Week 3, keep playing! It only takes 7 weeks to crown the ultimate playoff champion! Any team that can't play due to covid goes to the losers bracket after a week off, or is eliminated if they already have one loss.

7 weeks. A lot of slack built in the calendar to spread out weeks as needed. A way forward for teams with one loss. Winners proceed until a champ is decided. Maybe have the final 8 teams quarantined under one roof to serve as a bubble.

Crazy idea??

Yes, “writing off the 2020 football season” seven weeks before it is scheduled to start is a crazy idea. Asinine might be an even better description.

Don’t you think it would make better sense to analyze the facts in around a month?

If they could do this, they could just play the regular schedule.
Except after 3 weeks about two-thirds of the teams are out and not playing, by design. Which will probably be how the planned full schedule will turn out, but with chaos everywhere. imo

A lot of travel for fans unless no fans are allowed. How do you split the revenue? the first to lose 2 games will go bankrupt Texpenses for travel will eat up much of the revenue. Teams will lose all of their beer and concession's profit. Athletics will be away from classes too much. I don,t think it will work.

No in person fans.
Split revenue from TV money? Somebody smarter than me can figure out the $$.
Nobody's going bankrupt, be lucky to get 2 games in before it's all shut down anyway.
Athletes not away from classes any more than usual.

It's a pipedream, but so is playing anything resembling a normal season.

Players are already balling at playing and questioning safety.

Who? And how many?

If you are talking about the PAC-12 group, please show all of their demands so everyone can see it for what it really is.

SEC players are saying conditions are not safe to play. See separate thread.
