why the hell did it take this long? losing to bama isnt as hurtful as losing the east race to florida

Because UF is early in the year and impacts the SEC and NC hunts, it is big - really big.

But only the sub 25yo crowd views a UF loss worse than a UAT loss. I really hate that in the big picture of UT.

UAT is where the bad blood is, that's why UAT is the fixed team on our schedule from the west.

I agree that it will be the most important test that CPF will need to pass, and would say that it was the most important test since the Fla game in 97 as well.

It is always important, but this year it is paramount. That would not be the case had the Vols beaten LSU and Arky last year, but sadly they did not. This game will be the true barometer for where we stand athletically with the rest of the conference. Are we stepping forward or standing still?

it would also really establish where CPF is in relation to the current HC's in the league. 0-3 agains urban meyer just sounds really, really bad.

Well it will definitely be an interesting game. We have to replace 9 out of 11 starters on D. That's what I'm worried about

Yes, that will be a big game. First step towards getting back to the top of the SEC. Its going to happen sooner or later... hopefully sooner. But not until we beat Florida.

Almost everybody that has posted in this thread has made some good and valid points but in my opinion the Cal game may be more important than UF this time around, just for the simple fact that it is a road game against a quality team. A road victory over Cal would be a big cofidence booster before going into the swamp whereas a loss at Cal would be devastating. Don't get me wrong the UF game is vital as is every game in the SEC, I just think a road loss to a PAC-10 team before we even get there would be crushing to our chances. Something to think about anyway.

I find all points valid, but the one thing I want to see is winning in the stretch. We start out Vols to the wall, and then seem to go bass ackwards. I could handle early losses, and a fierce run in the end. Say we get a bowl, and win it? Mind you all, I never want to lose, but losing at the end of the season carries much weight. We need to find a way to rectify this and make it right. I love having a bowl, but being known as the team that gets a bowl and loses just really sucks! And that is how we are seen. We have the talent, it is shown in the NFL. Now, we have to put together the equation from recruiting to showcasing the talent and team we have, There is a missing piece in the puzzle. There lies the answer.
