No players want to help the Vols to deliver on that hype more than the three cornerstone seniors.

"Me and Cam were roommates freshman year, and I remember times we'd just be sitting there talking about the season or something," Dobbs said. "We were talking about the goals that we wanted to accomplish while we were here at Tennessee. The fact that every single goal that we want to accomplish is right in front of us is great.

"We talked about our class bringing Tennessee back to its spot where it should be. Obviously Tennessee has a great program of tradition, so that was our mindset when we stepped on campus. We've done that, and now we have to take care of business."

They'll have their opportunity to go out in style.

These guys can go down in Vol lore forever. We'll just need John Ward to narrate the 2016 Season Retrospective.

It's hard to believe it's gone by that quickly. Seems like was just yesterday that Worley was the starter.

Way to derail a great thread.

AL is winning, in part, with wr screens, popping off 50+ yrd gains with td's. Is it possible that Dobbs has been mis-reading best-screen situations, or does our lack of more gains from our screen calling all fall on the receivers and play calling and HC's lack of faith in players' abilities?

IE: If AL is winning NC's utilizing wr screens AND passing for 3400 +/- yds consistently (and gaining as many rush yards), and, UT is throwing an equal or greater % of screens and passing for only 2300 +/- yrds, what is it that's making our passing game achieve so many fewer yards?

Dobbs doesn't call the plays.

Well, he can throw the screen better than anything else, therefore I hope he can now throw all passes well enough for them to be called. The play callers want to score as many points as possible, up to a point, and they will call the plays which they/he believes can be completed. Of course, they have called a couple of deep ball even thought they knew it would be a wasted play. We will see if the passing game has added more deep throws. I Really hope the deep passing games comes around and if it does, I hope Dobbs is throwing the ball. I would love to see the freshman Qb be able to red shirt.

Just like anytime anyone posts anything positive about Josh someone "feels" the need make a negative post.

Time for all to face the fact that we win it all if the deep pass is accurate. If it isn't, we may win the SEC East, or we may not. I don,t really care who completes the deep ball, but it must happen if we expect to live up the the preseason hype.

Things that go into throwing the ball deep.
QB
Wr's
Oline
Defense
Any one or any combination of these can and often do prevent throwing the ball deep.

Dobbs can absolutely throw the ball well enough. He's not Manning by any stretch but he's also not the ragged arm slouch some fools on here seem to think.

Dobbs has thrown some really nice passes and our receivers have had their moments also.
Neither have a long ways to go for what we need.
Just a small improvement from both, and it becomes a legitimate threat.
That small amount of improvement, and I see the coaches becoming more comfortable making the call.

I don't see this team becoming an air raid team and we don't have to, all we need to do is make the defense have to account for it consistently.
And us being able to rely on it when needed.

I have been frustrated, as many on here have, with our ineffectiveness at throwing the ball, so I wanted to put it into perspective by comparing Dobbs to Tee Martin.

Forget the stats (which are not good), but watch the 1998 Syracuse, Auburn, and Georgia games. I went to two of those and of course watched the Syracuse game on TV (at that time) and I don't know how I did not pull all my hair out. Tee's passing was truly atrocious.

Syracuse, Tee was 9 of 26 passing
Auburn, Tee was 5 of 14 passing
Georgia, Tee was 9 of 17 with 2 interceptions in the first half.

Link to the GA game, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZmifg6h1sQ

My point is not that Tee was a terrible throwing quarterback, my point is that if we are going to win big this year, it will be about the entire team, but especially the defense, just like in 1998.

Not sure how every thread gets on Dobbs arm but these 3 seniors coming back was the best crutin' job jones has done since being at UT. The diff in team 120 with these 3 ballers and without them is huge for the 2016 season. AK is fantastic and gona be a weapon but I think we would feel the absence of Cam & JRM the most if it would've went the other way. Dobbs arm will be on point more than enough to win the east if his surrounding cast all play up to their talent level.

I get your part about threads in general but really not so much on this one.
Not sure if you missed the OP or what, but the thread was about Dobbs, JRM and Cam, not Kamara as you spoke of.

Good read about what they want to accomplish at Tennessee. And with Dobbs being the quarterback, passing did kind of flow into the conversation.
