This Schiano episode will be the equivalent of the death penalty if there isn't some stability in both the AD office and a coach hire with a very reputable background. And quickly.

UT has to fix this now. Recruits are jumping ship, every other P5 program is going after every UT recruit right now using words like "dumpster" and "fire." I'm sure current players are looking at transfer options with a lot of them working back channels to weigh their options. The national media is laughing at us as fans, and at the administration.

This is going to be tough to come back from.

Rather have current dumpster fire than be married to Schiano for the next 4-5yrs and pay him $8mill to walk away. He was a total misfit for this job

This is not a scenario that we can walk away from unscathed. We will more than likely have to settle for a sub-par and/or unknown coach with no P5 experience and hope that he is a diamond in the rough; probably Mike Houston or someone of that level.

He will get a 5 year contract because we will have little leverage, John Currie will be fired by the third year, and the next AD will be brought in to hire the next coach five years from now.

Haslam literally has a reverse-Midas-touch of sh!t.

We've kinda been living in a self-imposed death penalty for years, and we'll never get out of it until the Haslams go away.

I think you are on to something. Fire Currie and anyone else above him that you would like. Do a two year self-imposed football program death penalty. Release all scholarships. Hire Manning or Charles Davis or Cheeseball as AD. Disinfect the entire football department. Apply some fresh paint. Hire a coach in one year. First recruiting class are all redshirted. Begin playing football when the 2nd recruiting class is signed. Go 4-8 the first year, 6-6 the second...

Bueno Jim, I had the same thoughts today, after I thought last night was the bottom losing to Vandy.

Penn State raped boys and turned it around quickly. This is nothing.

Penn St got O'Brien for a few years, who has proved himself as a very competent coach both at the college and NFL level. Turn followed that up with Franklin. Two perfect hires for the program.

Don't know why, especially in light of our current predicament, we don't just hire Les Miles. No buy outs, relatively inexpensive, quality person, national and SEC rings. Bring in guru OC, and move on.

This situation will be looked back on as a case study on how not to operate as an AD. Currie will be the guy sitting over at a table by himself at next AD meeting, with everyone looking over their shoulders snickering.

I don't want Manning involved in anything regarding our program.

Les isn't stupid. He'd negotiate a 5 year contract at $7.5 million/year with a $4 million/year buyout because he's represented by Jimmy Sexton who has apparently made it his life's goal to screw over UT as much as humanly possible

I would take Mike Houston in a heartbeat. Dude is one of the up and comers in college football and he can straight coach. He has the ability to adapt his coaching style to fit the personnel he has. He ran the triple option all the way to a National Title game with Lenior Rhyne and to a rare conference championship and playoff win with the Citadel (they also beat South Carolina). I believe he is now running a pro-style/spread offense at James Madison where he is currently 25-1 as their head coach. He would be a lifer at UT as well. It's probably a few years early but I would get him before someone else does. Here is a video of his pre-game speech from a game this year. And oh by the way.. College GameDay went to James Madison this year. #theyknow

And if he were hired, he might work out, but after suffering through 5 years of Butch Jones, would Mike Houston be your first choice? No, there's not enough surety that he could replicate his success in the SEC.

Now however, he might be the only type of coach willing to come here and deal with an obviously incompetent AD and administration that has turned the hiring process into a literal circus of national embarrassment.
