Seems like we are about 2yrs away...

Totally disagree. And I don't understand why all of the sudden so many vol fans have absolutely no expectations. People saying 6-6 will be good enough bla bla bla...in 2 years we won't have aj, worley, North, Pearson, maggitt, Sutton, vereen...Who knows what we'll have in 2 years. What has happened to our fan base. The best time to win is now. And we have some pieces in place we haven't had in quite a while. Who was picking auburn last year?

The smartest thing for Dobbs would be to RS him. He's got the most natural talent, but needs the game to slow down for him. There's plenty of time for things to start clicking for him here. Look at Worley's progression from his FR year until now (accuracy wise), why not afford Dobbs the chance to prove he can improve as well?

Right now, this is unquestionably Worley's team.

Spot on. I am just glad most of the Favorite QB fan threads have stopped. Then the OP started this one....

...from being a perennial challenger in the SEC E. We do seem improved on D, but even the coaches acknowledge we are undersized at the DT position. Obviously, we are young, and don't have much experience on the OL.

But after 2 games, I think we can see where our weaknesses lay. The OL is the biggest. Sure, that's obvious by now. But, I think the No.1 obstacle to our ability to win games in the SEC is that Butch and Bajakian are basically FORCING a classic pocket passer to run their read option scheme. I suspect they will look back on this and realize how bad of a mistake it was.

Dobbs is really the ONLY QB on the roster who fits the scheme. So, it's a tough choice to bench a senior in favor of a Sophomore. We fans tend to assume that because a player doesn't start, that = they suck. Not so.

I think in order for this team to have a fighting chance to prevail in this meat-grinder of a schedule, Bajakian is going to have to adapt his offense more to suit his pocket passer, rather than pretend defenses will respect the QB keeper because we make Worley run it once or twice in a game.

They don't. So, break it up a bit, mixing in some I-Formation and Pistol sets, and bring Dobbs in on critical 3rd or 4th and short, and goal line situations.

Worley is simply a bad fit for this scheme, so at least modify the scheme to fit the QB, not the other way around.

Dobbs won't see the field this year unless Worley and perhaps Peterman are injured and out. Heard they plan on trying to redshirt him which I agree with.

You make some good points, but the offensive scheme is what it is and we're gonna have to live with it. Hopefully there are some other tweaks and adjustments they can make to help the running game. I personally really like what I've seen from the passing game so far. When Worley isn't pressured up the middle and doesn't try to throw off his backfoot he's been on time and accurate.

Y'all dissing on Dobbs smh. Not every QB can come in as a true freshmen and light defenses up. Some of you have unrealistic expectations for a true freshmen starting against bama, mizz, etc. You know in fact, David Cornwell is the 3rd/4th string at bama? He must not be a good fit for the system or obviously just sucks...

I love VN.

Lets exchange the most accurate passer on the roster and best game manager for a guy that will pick up an additional 50 yards rushing each game. Sounds like a revolutionary idea, doesn't it?

If he matched Worley's passing yardage?....sure... But face it, 255 avg/game passing + 15 yds rushing> 150 total per game ...any day and twice on Saturday. :yess:

pretty sure thats where the sophomore spring and fall come into play to win the job... and by all accounts, outside of the O&W game,he did not play very well, and was very inaccurate... and he will not see the field this year unless we have a repeat of last year and 2 qb's go down

Worley is doing fine. He had a couple of good keeps and is delivering the ball well. The o-line should improve through the season, as it seems to be an experience issue, not a talent issue. I think we can compete in the east next year. If we catch some breaks we might compete this year.
We have more talent than everyone in the east except Georgia and Florida. We have a Florida at home and, while they looked great against E. Michigan, they still aren't a known factor. We play Georgia on the road but if we could somehow pick up a win then it's not about upsetting teams but about playing the game we are capable of.
Do I think that's going to happen? No, I think our lack of experience take Georgia and Alabama out of reach and push Florida, SC, and ole miss to really tough wins.

Who's dissing on Dobbs?

This whole thread (end every idiot that agrees with op) is a diss to all of the current players. We've got the best opportunity for a decent record we've had in several years and somehow people have determined we can't win anything this year. If I was aj or worley and read this I'd be pissed.

How about we just get behind these guys we've got right now and enjoy the moment. Who know what the future hilds

I do NOT want to write him off or even criticize the young man, but NOT understanding the EXTREME hype about Hurd? Good kid, great athlete but just don’t see the hype! Not built like any excellent running back ESPECIALLY in the SEC (in fact I’m afraid he’s gonna break sometime during the tough season). Look at Fournette, look at ‘Bama’s runnin backs, in fact look at nearly ALL the SEC’s backs (Gurley) and tell me this guy is gonna excel in the SEC? Huge VFL, and hope I’m wrong but so far Lane has shown me more! In fact were I him (Lane) I would be VERY disappointed in seeing Hurd getting more reps!

Looks like the OP violated rule #1 - Don't make any observations that don't say everything is wonderful. Of course, nevermind that he's right, the scheme doesn't fit the QB and two so so offensive performances against below average competition bears this out. We are, definitely, two years away. The way we are recruiting, though, I'm not too concerned with getting a QB that fits the system. I am more worried that we have coaches who have trouble adapting to the personnel at hand.

Well, we will have a much better idea what the future holds after this week's game. It has been exciting to watch the 2 victories, but much stiffer competition lies ahead. This is reminiscent of last year, before the Oregon game. If our OLine is unable to protect Worley when the big boys come along, then it could get ugly real quick. This is my biggest concern. I hope it is unfounded.

If you haven't figured it out already, Tennessee is always 2 years away. The interesting thing about it is that James Franklin and Hughes Freeze have done alot more with alot less in terms of turning their respective programs around. Tennessee needs to put up (6 wins) or shut up. Next year, with Dobbs or Peterman at the helm, doesn't look much more promising. QB is kind of an important position...

I'm putting it at about 60/40 that next year it's Dormady.

I'm fully behind this team, 100%. Can we not discuss whether or not the coaches want to redshirt Dobbs to be able to stagger our QBs? Worley is the man we need to ride with this year. Dobbs' time is hopefully coming and we'd be better served with him getting another year to develop and hopefully be the starter in 2015.

Agreed. When firing on all cylinders this team can win some unexpected ball games.

I've heard this prediction for six years now. Two years is too far ahead for a prediction. This season is not over yet. Have some faith.
