Joe Barry went to school at USC and Kiffin said last week that they (USC) were trying to hire him. This should not suprise anyone and we should consider ourselves lucky that he's not comming here.

Was Barry officially offered the job?

I don't know for sure, but I have my doubts that he was. I don't see why he would take a LB coach job at USC if he had the opportunity to be the DC at UT. I feel like he was never offered the UT job so he took the USC job. Just speculation on my part however.

I, personally, was worried that he was going to get the UT gig. He would have been a horrible hire as DC. Anytime you are a big figure associated with an 0-16 NFL team(which had a horrible defense that season), you are not a good hire for a good program like ours. I am hoping that Withers gets the job. He would be a great get and maybe get us in the door with some of these kids UNC was getting. :crossfingers: He, Chuck Smith, and Lance would be a scary good staff.

I'm surprised the Bucs released him to take a lateral move...actually, a step down since it's college ball.

I agree. Dooley may have considered Barry but I think Dooley was going in a different direction all along. It may be the NC cd. I would be fine with withers and smith as D-Line coach but there is one thing I have learned in my short time on this site. Don't get your hopes up!

so what happened with Ken Norten Jr? Did he leave to go to Seattle or somewhere else? I must have missed it.

Oh, wait! It is a chance to work with Lane Kiffen and his well respected staff of honest and loyal coaches. Definitely a step up! :clapping:

I think X told him to hold off and he will hire him to USC...CXX must have know a little sooner than we did, or waiting until the process got to him to be hired at USC.

did not move around a lot,, was in Tampa, went to Lions with Father in Law, then back to Tampa. A very good person... cannot speak to his ability to be a DC as Rah took over in mid season from Jim Bates - so I have to think Barry stepped up during season to help Rah out a lot with that. Is a very high energy person though and will do well at USC. I think Rah must be thinking about changing for Barry to leave and take a college gig that is the same position. The DC job in Tampa is subject to change - up in the air right now.

A USC guy with Tampa ties who rides his Daddy in-laws coat-tails, doesnt have a very good record and moves around alot. Sounds very familiar. Ill hang up and listen

Nothing better than when people are having a conversation and the man of all wisdom jumps in and tells everyone to "relax." I think everything was pretty civil without your help. Thanks anyway chief.:salute:
