He didn't have as long a run as John Ward but, as I recall, he was very good in his own way. I just can't remember his name. I'd like a little help with that.

Mooney is almost certainly the man I had in mind. Lindsey Nelson was already a national announcer by then. Thanks for the help.

Yes, it was George Mooney....He was an outstanding play-by-play man, one of the best that I ever heard...I think he left because he had so many other business interests - one of those was as owner of a major radio station in Nashville....It's a shame that he didn't continue his broadcasting career but then we would not have had John Ward and all that he brought to Big Orange Country if that had happened...right?

John Ward was already broadcasting basketball games. He took over football when George Mooney left after 1967. John Ward then both football and basketball for the next thirty years.

Mooney with Bob Foxx doing color....

yeah, as a small child I listened to Mooney and Foxx on the local radio station. When they announced their retirement I thought there was no one that could possibly replace them. That is the only time in my life I've been wrong :whistling:

Yeah, it was real hard to listen to the Vol Network after Ward/Anderson retired...I just hope that Kesling decides he is tired of it so we can have somebody else.
