alabama was set and loaded when saban walked in (from cheating) .That's why he walked in. He would not have otherwise. He needed a win.

Honestly... I haven't thought of OU as a threat for Heupel. Most of the folks involved in firing him are still there. They wouldn't want to eat crow. He is probably wary of working with them again.

Also... Norman isn't any easier to recruit to than Knoxville. They're about to be just another fish in the pond instead of one of two bass in a fish tank full of guppies. My guess is that had something to do with Riley's departure.

If Heupel were to leave UT IMO it will be for a job where it is easier to recruit with all else being equal.
If Oklahoma wasn't his alma mater, where he won a National Championship, I wouldn't be worried, but they are ... and so I am.

I'll be glad when this is over. I've recently been diagnosed with chronic high blood pressure. Another UT football coaching search might just kill me.

I could be wrong but I read somewhere recently that Baylor was working on an extension for him. Don't have a link, just going from memory.
There's reports circulating that he's "expected" to sign an extension, but what doesn't that even mean? Expectations are meaningless.

again... okie ended on bad terms with coach hype, and he is a VERY competitive guy, he is not going to okie. Find another narrative.
doubleD, never say never, when it comes to the coaching profession. I don’t think he’s going to OK either, but...
GBO!!

LSU is screwed, period. I think CBN was to be their main target and UF got him first . . . If OU gets CBV LSU will be in much worse shape than they are right now. Plus, I do not believe that CMC from the Ducks is interested in coming to the south, much less the SEC.

This leaves Fickell and a few other lower tier coaches to choose from.

LSU is screwed, blued and tattooed . . . and ole Ed walks off into the sunset, or on to the beaches, with about $17M in the bank.

GBO

From what I understand, LSU has an image issue where they are too good to hire a lower tier Louisiana coach, so I don't know that they ever seriously considered Billy Napier for their opening. I think that's a dumb rationale, but I can see it. Imagine if our job were open, and the MTSU coach was just killing it. Our fans would likely think we are too good to stoop to that level. Who knows, but LSU is now certainly in a precarious position.

In the past there was a reason. There is ZERO reason this time. The coaches and players and AD he likes are here, and/or talking about coming here. This is a place he wants to be.

Wonder if all this turmoil will affect OU looking for an early departure from the Big12. Mught be better to spend at least one more year in the Big 12 with a new coach and recuperating from a glut of transfers than jump right into the SEC. But if you're going to suck, wouldn't it be less embarrassing to suck in the SEC than the Big 12

Somebody check in on the Oklahoma fans, they are freaking out and having a hard time.
Just be prepared to read some explicit profanity, the likes of which, I haven't seen on sport's message boards before. Last night, their moderators gave up on trying to keep things under control. It's a free for all against Lincoln Riley. Anything goes. They were even insulting his young children - I'm not kidding!

But not a burning mattress in sight? Amateurs.

This is crazy! So this is how real AD’s conduct a search? I thought you first had to be turned down several times and it was supposed to linger on for 2-3 weeks, before you finally settle on a candidate.
🤷‍♂️
GBO!!

They are but he's not from Oklahoma. He doesn't have family there. The family he thought he had... betrayed him... badly. And that's only his half of it.

Imagine you are a high ranking person in the OU AD... imagine you are an influential regent or supporter or donor... who was involved in, complicit in, or supportive of the decision to fire Heupel. You probably don't want to admit that you were wrong. Long ago you probably put that notion in a tomb and buried it 6' deep. You have rationalized and justified that it was the right thing to do. What would it take with all those other options for you to admit that Heupel was the "best" option to be your new HC? What would it take to convince a majority of that group of heavy hitters that probably numbers more than 10... maybe more than 20? And the cherry on top? You have to convince the same people who you convinced to help you fire him just 7 years ago... to pony up for an $8 million buyout and a big salary with the security that Heupel would likely demand.

I just don't see any much less all of those obstacles being overcome right now... nor within the timeframe they've likely set.

I suspect the attempt to hire him would go over about as well as Schiano did at UT.

I'll be glad when this is over. I've recently been diagnosed with chronic high blood pressure. Another UT football coaching search might just kill me.
I can't say you have nothing to worry about. I just don't think you have much to worry about from OU and Heupel.

I'd actually be more concerned if his name popped up in LSU discussions.

We should know something soon. Oklahoma needs to move fast on a replacement. They are hemorrhaging 2022 commitments. 6 in the last 24 hours.

I love it when this happens to other schools. All the idiots har har haring at us when the kiffin debacle happened get to feel our pain. I have no sympathy.
