UNC vs Vandy, Clemson vs UGA, Texas vs Gonzaga & Davidson, Marquette vs Virginia, Nova vs GW.

Seems like a lot of teams are doing this. I know Pearl knows his group pretty well but it would be nice to get better comp. for scrimmage games in the future. Why do people even waist time beating up Div II schools? Aint that what the first couple of weeks of the regular season is for? I could see maybe one for a confidence booster.

Playing the D2 school generates revenue. The secret game is exactly that - secret.
Other than the revenue issue, I agree.

The revenue always plays a part. However, that shouldn't stop schools that lead the nation in attendance, such as 'Cuse, UK and UT. Word from the grapevine is that Cal wanted nothing to do with either exhibition and wanted to hold the secret scrimmage. However, the games were set in stone on the schedule last season. I think they are pushing hard for this idea next season.

I tend to think Pearl would do this as well. He's not afraid to play big boys in the pre-season schedule, and I doubt he has any reservations about something like this.

Although, I could be wrong.

i dont buy these secret scrimmages. there is way too much media surrounding these teams for their to be secret scrimmages. If we all know about them they arent secret. I think they are rumors. Vandy did not beat UNC by 10. no way no how.

I've never heard of these. Are these unofficial exhibition games that were played in an empty arena? I'm sorty of with mj, I find it a bit hard to believe in this day and age that something like this could happen in secret.

Perhaps I can help clear it up a bit for you. Everyone is taking the word "secret" to the extreme, in this instance. I think that might be the OP's own words, not the official "lingo" for what they really are, which is scrimmages, not exhibitions. You obviously can't keep a secret about a team assembling, traveling to another location, and entering said location without being noticed.

What is implied by secret, is that NONE of the local media is allowed access inside, or to even interview players/coaches concerning the scrimmage. Also, members of the team or anyone affiliated with either program is not supposed to leak any information either. (which everyone knows will still happen).

This is my understanding of the situation, from what I have read. TIFWIW.

Check out this link. Has some information on some of the games. I have heard of the Zag/Longhorn games that have been done for sometime now. I guess it has something to do with the Few/Barnes relationship and an excellent matchup for either team preparing for the season. I could see some good ACC exhibition games for us since the location works out but I'm guessing that has a lot to do with coach relationship as well.

I don't think so. Hell, we don't even have a midnight madness celebration like the other schools. I know attendance might suck the way the school calendar falls for those types of events but I'd love to see Pearl put one on.

Not 100% sure but isn't their a break during the time practice officially starts? I heard something that with the break, it might be bad because of so many people being out of class and not packing the house for such an event (which you'd think could be devestating to recruits since they are usually invited)
