Inexperience is the biggest issue with the secondary....just like everywhere else on the team

Really? They've played two top 10 teams and avg giving up about 150 ypg. Oregon got 202 but that isn't anything you would call monumental.

UT hasn't produced much of a pass rush either.

I was a little disappointed with the run support vs Oregon but otherwise I would say they're playing better than their experience level.

What he said. With the lack of a real pass rush against UF, we should be happy that the secondary did as well as they did.

Very difficult for the secondary to be successful unless you get pressure on the QB. If he has time to throw he will find an open receiver.

Our secondary is fine, but the pass rush is what needs to improve.

No pressure from front 4 or our blitz packages is the reason in my opinion. I'd personally like to see Marsalis and Eric man the corners from here on out. I think it would help the attitude of the secondary big time. They're aggressive in the run and pass game and more athletic than Art. But it doesnt matter who's back there if we dont pressure the QB.

The secondary has been fairly solid considering the competition and circumstances.

I can't believe Janzen hasn't put somebody in the ER yet this year..seems like he's not playing full speed. Its gotta be a mental thing, u know he has the physical tools

Everyone forgets that #14 isn't back there any more, even though they know he isn't there any more

He like 185 of that. Only way he's laying anyone out or het a good lick is if he catches them defenseless. He tried to lay into the UF RB and hurt his hand. Wrap and drive is what he needs to learn.

That's the truth. When a QB has all day to throw and passing lanes too, Dion Sanders, Revis, and Lott couldn't shut down the WR's.

50% of the secondary is starting for first time..

all pro secondaries have problems when there is no pass rush from front 7... 2 sacks is a problem

sounds like your expectations were too high

Like it has been said, it all works together. Getting the plays in, the right alignment, recognition, execution. I also think that the lack of pressure on the QB has been a major issue. Unfortunately I think that injuries and our lack of depth will have a bigger influence than our ability to coach them up for the remainder of the year. In other words,

IMHO - It's going to get worse before it gets better

It also didn't help that Oliver is hurt, Myles was booted, Loften, Clark and Dixon didn't qualify and Berry and Rogan left early.

I am really actually very impressed with their play considering Gordon is a brand new starter, Teague was a receiver last year, and Waggner was a liability last year.

Good work Secondary!

Not really disappointed with anything except the team quitting in the second half vs Oregon. Thus far they've all done about what I expected considering circumstance.

As to the secondary, the lack of a pass rush was the problem vs Florida. They actually did a sterling job not giving up anything long under those circumstances.

ok..great that they are 24th in pass D....but we HAVENT PLAYED A TRUE PASSING TEAM YET........ and we have given up tons of 3rd and longs.
it is going to get worse.....
don't get me wrong...we are young and I am pulling for them hard as @#%& but reality is young and in trouble

How do you figure that?

This is a bunch of young talent, and they should get continually better throughout the season.

Also, I believe UT has just played 2 of the 3 hardest opponents they will see this year. Bama will probably roll up the passing yards (17th in passing in NCAA), but who else will?

UGA with Green back in the rotation could put up some decent passing numbers, but they are starting a young QB (currently 63rd in NCAA in team passing yards). SC looks like it will ride Lattimore as much as possible (84th ranked passing attack in NCAA). LSU currently boasts the 115th passing attack in the nation. Surely we shouldn't be scared of UAB, Ole Miss, Memphis, or Vandy.

In fact, the best passing attack UT still has to face outside of Bama is Kentucky (32nd overall in NCAA), and have you looked at Kentucky's competition (or lack thereof) so far (Louisville, Western KY, and Akron)?

I'm not saying they'll be a top 25 passing D, but they really won't play any great passing offenses unless something changes, and they have plenty of room to grow.

Our young db's are hanging in there, they could be very good if we could get some pressure on the qb in key situations. A decent consistent pass rush will also allow our DC to throw in some blitz packages that further confuse the qb while lowering the probability of getting torched when we leave our corners and safeties with little or no linebacker support. The key here is pass rush, if we can develop our younger players on the D-line over the next year or two we will see a more active defense capable of creating turnovers. Until this happens we will ask them to play it close and not give up many big plays.

Criticizing our DB's to this point is a little silly, they have performed well considering.
