SECCountry: Peyton Manning agreed with Tennessee hiring Greg Schiano, Kirk Herbstreit

I don't believe a word Herbstreit utters. After the way he came at us Sunday, and over the years on GameDay. I will still need to hear it from PM, and I believe he earned it to at least explain how he got to that decision if it was the case.

He gives his opinion. Herbstreit calls it like he sees it. He’s been in our corner when he thought we were right. He’s not going to lie when all it would take is Peyton saying it didn’t happen, and Peyton won’t because he said it.

Peyton on the other hand, who I personally like,

Yea, we probably did a number on a really good coach. For Peyton to have a personal beef with him and still endorse the hire says a lot.

Peyton also endorsed Butch Jones before he was hired. His judgement isn’t always perfect for the Vols. He’s a human being, not a deity like we’ve treated him for years. You don’t last as long as he did without having a giant ego and being a nice, humble person.

Again...if that's the case then he deserves to be heard as to his reasoning and not filleted for the college football world to see. 2 Weeks ago...if you would have told me that Tennessee fans were turning on Manning I would have bet a lot of things to disagree. Just a sad state all around. Family fights hurt the worst...just hoping we can heal after all this mess is gone.

Maybe you need to do more research on Schiano and his time at TB, his time at PSU as well as Rutgers

This.

Valid or not, scandals have followed him basically his entire coaching career. Not wanting anyone remotely associated with the worst scandal in sports history is completely reasonable.

This is what UT was trying to do the whole time. Drag fans down so they will accept anything that is going to walk down the tunnel.

Are you f'ing kidding me?! So Peyton and crew calls and consults with FREAKIN KIRK HERBSTREIT about coaches rather than VFL's and fans?!?!?!

The whole Peyton thing going on here, really? He wont go against the admin, but I recall a lot of fans on here that was happy to get Jones just to get rid of Dooley, and Jones didnt do a bad job overall, this year stunk it up, sure, but he did OK, and I am not a Jones fan in no way. I was against his hiring, but it was who we got. One thing I would like to say, Manning has done quite a bit for this school, and its not all about football, the scholarships, donations, etc., to knock him for maybe he backed so and so, really. This is football, not life or death. And he lived Football. I am hoping one day he wants to coach, maybe an OC, I cant imagine the recruiting we would have for QBs, Oline, WRs, wow. But, he wont, thats just a dream for a lot of us. And the one pollster that said Brady GOAT, depends on how you look at that, if you say championships, then you need to recheck your numbers, overall "Championships", not SuperBowls, Brady would have to win a few more. And he is a system QB, Manning wasnt, Manning made his system up. Manning only had one good defensive team that could win, and it stunk that it was his last year, but had he had Bradys coaching, and defense, wow. Brady walked into two SB wins, pretty much a giveme, the last two.

Maybe because Manning and Herbstreit are right. We did run away a tier 2 coach. No allegations against Schiano have been proven. Do a little research. Now we are stuck in this massive predicament.

And even so there are still options in the table that are on par with Schiano, without the optics and other baggage. Why haven't we reached out?

Because the problem is the admin. Why the rush to hire the guy when no one else was beating his door down? Especially with better options on the table?

Currie put us here. Not the fans. The guy should have never been in discussions.

Peyton will never publicly go against the administration. I wouldn't put too much stock into this. This could very well be his opinion, but I have my doubts.

I agree. Peyton just isn’t the kind of guy to go to war against the administration. This to me is similar to how Barnes said that he still supports Currie.

I agree, not a tier 1 coach. Which is why I said tier 2. But at this point we are at tier 5.

Schiano doesn't sniff tier 2. He's a tier 4 or 5 at best. Dude is a tool, and the owner of a terribly average record and a horrible reputation even without the Penn State cloud. Dude is little more than an eye sore.

Gonna wait and see if Manning refutes it. Not gonna take Herbies word at face value he’s a douche. But Travis Rucker or Brice should put the article in front of him and ask him to refute it.
