SEC Tournament hosted by the Lady Vols Softball Team

The Vols are lacking power. I don't know what our home run total for the year is, but it has got to be one of our worst years in a while. We didn't hit too many last year, either. Gregg hits a few but is--thankfully--a line drive hitter. McSwain and Geer can hit it out, but they are streaky. After that, not much at all. Rowland and Lockman definitely have power potential but have struggled to adjust to SEC pitching. We've shown that you can win a lot of games without it--but power is one way to beat a very good opposing pitcher. If your pitcher has a good game, and you can get one timely homer in a game where your hitters are otherwise struggling against an excellent pitcher, you can steal a game 2-1 or somesuch.

She's another good call out for massive underachievement. Chew on this arm, since joining the Big 12 WVU has winning records head to head against Texas in every sport but Volleyball and Swimming. Even baseball...

After this weekend, I’m guessing UT will be a 10 seed with UF, FSU, Arizona, Oregon, Auburn, Washington, Minnesota, Oklahoma and UCLA ahead of us.

In conference, I think UF, Auburn, UT, aTm, Bama and Ole Miss will host Regionals; UF and Auburn will host Supers. Bama and Ole Miss used the SECT to their advantage.

How do you guys see it?

Not really sold on UCLA being in ahead of us they got swept by Utah and lost to Kentucky this season. I think we deserve to be seeded above them because of their 13 losses to our ten with similar records against the top 25.
I see the Pac 10 getting 3 in the top eight. The SEC top to bottom is the higher rated conference with 10 teams ranked in the top 25 to their 7.
If they get 3 and SEC only gets two will really look about right.
We could be 9 and UCLA 10 but who knows and really it won't matter as we want be hosting a Super Regional

I don't disagree with you, but in my world schedule matters.

I don't care what Minnesota's record is, they don't deserve a national seed. Didn't even have to play Michigan during the season, the one traditional power the Big 10 has. Didn't play Ohio State either, #35 in the RPI.

These SEC schools played more games against the RPI top 10 than Minnesota played against the RPI Top 50.

They were 3-3 against the RPI Top 30.

I know it's going to happen, but it's not right.

I thought the same way about UCLA a few weeks ago. Some of the large losses, giving up a lot of runs. But I've changed my mind. They are 4 in the RPI to our 9 and they are only 1 spot behind us in the USA Today/coaches poll. I think they will get a higher seed than us. I think the schedule will do us in. We played 6 out of conference games against the top 50. They played 17. Plus their conference schedule was as tough as ours. And I'm afraid our 3-5 finish will be fresh on the minds of the selection committee. Hope I'm wrong.

Oh, I'm in complete agreement. I think it's ridiculous that Minnesota is in the discussion for a national seed. Their schedule doesn't match up to other top teams, and they lost decisively to Washington. I was just putting out there what I think the committee will do.

An early exit from the SECT is unlikely to cost the Gators or Auburn a national seed, but it's highly likely to put UT on the outside looking in.

The funny part is that in the end, it hurts the seeded teams.

I mean, if I am Oklahoma, I don't want Tennessee coming to town. You know the schedule they've played. You know they ain't scared.

I'd much rather see Minnesota come to town than a team that has faced superior competition and held their own.

Yep. There's a lot of parity this year, and UCLA probably isn't a better team than the LVs. UCLA's higher RPI ranking and stronger finish are in their favor, though. The Bruins won 13 of their last 14 games, including two shutouts vs Arizona. The LVs wobbled at the end and since the committee factors that in, it could cost us.

You're right, though-- it doesn't matter if we're 9 or 10, we'll be traveling if we make it out of the Regionals.

It will be interesting. Teams that have faced less competition, like Minnesota, could have a real showdown if they face an SEC team like LSU or UK in their Regional. SEC teams have beaten up on each other all year and are battle-tested. We could see some busted brackets early on.

Of course, LSU could get a 16 seed and host.

I am most always wrong about everything. I think we get the 8 seed. Minn should be on the outside looking in. If they get one and we don't I would love to give them a try in a super! JMHO as always!!

I think that loss to ole miss ended that myself.

No way Ole Miss hosts. Despite winning the tournament their RPI is not close to top 16.

Wow. I believe UT has 16 top 25 RPI wins.

You are going to "wobble" when you win 20 straight the last half of the year. There is nowhere to go but down.

Minnesota and the RPI and the coaches poll.

I didn't think they deserved a top 8 seed, but I thought they'd get one. I'm glad to see they didn't. I did think they deserved a top 16. I know, I know. They didn't play as many top 10 and 25 teams as the other seeds. I get that.

So tell me again - why do we have the RPI? The NCAA's own RPI has Minnesota currently #11. Doesn't the RPI factor in strength of schedule somewhat? Minnesota dropped all the way out of the top 16 at selection time. Ole Miss has an RPI of 19 this morning and got the #12 seed. I don't really have a problem with the seeds. I just don't understand why we have an RPI. Apparently the selection committee is capable of looking at records and strength of schedules and who's hot and whatever else and making an informed decision, regardless of what the RPI says. So why have it?

The coaches poll. I'm not sure who votes in it - if it is coaches or representatives of the Universities or what. Today Minnesota is #2 in the coaches poll. Maybe it's just a bunch of yahoo pencil pushers in the ADs offices that are voting based on the records and the conferences. So why allow member schools to participate in the poll? It's meaningless - like the RPI. If Minnesota is #11 in the NCAAs RPI and #2 in the coaches poll - and they don't get a top 16 seed - why have either of them?

I don't care about Minnesota one way or the other. This just seems curious to me. And I was bored this morning. Retirement you know

I thought Minnesota would get a top seed because they've been much-ballyhooed in the polls and RPI rankings. But reason prevailed.

Looks like the committee was pretty fair in the seeding, recognizing the strength of the SEC and PAC-12. Playing in these conferences means playing ranked teams almost every week-- something teams like Minnesota don't have to do. Kudos to the committee for looking at and rewarding the entire body of work.

The LVs have a manageable path to the Supers, and hopefully, on to the WCWS. We can't overlook anybody, but overall, I'd rather have our bracket than Bama's or Auburn's.
