SEC to discuss postseason for football (USA Today)

I've thought about something like this before. Where the entire season is a giant playoff where at the end of the season the best two teams emerge. I love it.

Its like a a double elimination tournament. Where a team with 1 loss ultimately has 1 more shot to beat the undefeated team and win the tournament. Everyone else is playing for where they can finish in the tournament, i.e. 4th, 5th, 6th, etc.

Theoretically, the tournament is a brilliant idea. However it would definitely need some ironing out if it were to be actually implemented, because as several people have pointed out before me, some of the matchups seem a little unfair. If it were based more on rankings or some non-retarded computer formula, then may be that would make it a little more fair for all.

Not too bad.

Oh, OK . . . I hate it and think it sounds like something made up by a 6th grader with a crayon after he sniffed glue.

the truth is football cannot be played everyother day like baseketball. that why there is no playoff. i would like a playoff but the bcs is not that bad. i say the top 8 teams can make a playoff which would make it three weeks.

I think the premise is good, but that proposed tournament is wayyyyyy too complicated...

Here are two other ways to do it in THREE weeks

Option one--
Take the conference champs from the 8 major conferencs (ACC, SEC, B10, B12, P10, WAC, CUSA, MWC...and by the way, screw Notre Dame). They are seeded 1-8 based on rankings, and play it out, single elimination.

Option two--
Take the top 8 teams based on rankings, and play it out, single elimination.

Very simple, very profitable, its all decided on the field, and the bowl structure stays intact (teams 9 thru whatever still go to bowl games.)

So the Big East gets left out and WAC champ is better than the SEC runner up?

Better idea.
