SEC Title game

It's only been 22 years. The Vast majority of UT students were either not born, or were toddlers when we won the last one, for this generation, you don't miss what you never had. Until we start planning and playing for SEC wins, we will never win an SEC Championship. For years the vast majority of the discussion (starting in the preseason) is "Will we make a bowl?"(don't forget over the last 22 years, there has been a lot of extra bowls added) That is our default goal. When was the last time (even on this board) do we hear or have serious discussions regarding what we need to do in order to win the SEC? sad

It's really not meant to be. But, I do think their chances are vastly improved in years when Alabama and Florida are at home compared to on the road.

Having said that, 2020 is too soon. So, 2022 is the earliest that I think a legitimate chance is there

How about GA? How have they done against us "on the road" during the last few years?

Uh, 2007 wasn't THAT long ago.
You are correct, WE LOST. The championship was won was by LSU!! If you read my post, no where did I reference, going to and posting a big loss, but rather WINNING the SEC Championship. Please re-read my post, I never stated playing for and posting a loss. POST #5 of this very string!!!!

They are 5-11-1 in the last 17 games against Alabama on the road.

They are 2-15 in the last 17 games against Florida on the road.

They are 8-9 in the last 17 games against Georgia at home

You are hilarious! Thanks, I needed a good joke! I know a smart guy, such as you, read post #5, and as an educated man, realized I had broadened the discussion! But thanks for the laugh!

Thanks for the deep dive on the stats! I guess, when I asked "during the last few years" I meant three or four, I guess I should have been more specific, I didn't mean for someone to go back 17 years! But, God Bless you!

UGA has several steps on us and FLA is a step ahead. East is going to get very tough between the three of us. Home field advantage could very well be worth something as @99gator mentioned.

The real question is how much longer does Saban stick it out? For the last 10 years, that’s been a guaranteed SEC loss on our schedule. Their reign is over and no one is going to want to take that job and live in that shadow. Being too good for too long may have actually hurt them.

That’s the difference in us finishing 2nd vs finishing 3rd in the East most years. With a little bit of luck, that 2nd can turn into a 1st.

Having said all that, I believe 2022 is when we’re one of the big dogs again. Assuming our staff stays intact.

Rebuilds/likely rebuilds between now and 2022:
Alabama
Auburn
SC
Ole Miss
Mizz
KY
Arkansas
A&M

Bama being permanently on our schedule may actually benefit us in the post-Saban era.
