This upcoming series is huge for the Vols. A two game lead on miss state needs to be extended as I am nearly certain they haven't played Bama yet. The way I see it Vandy, Tenn, Auburn, and miss state are all in jeopardy of finding themselves in that 11th spot at the end of the year. The vols can't miss an opportunity to bury Miss state well below them in the standings.

looks like we are in a 4 way tie for 6th, with georgia holding the tie-breaker over us. we're still in good shape to make the sec tourney, with a big series at miss st. looming next thurs-sat. we really need to win 2 of 3 against the'dogs !!! wednesday, we need to get back at e t s u. that was just an inexcusable loss, in my opinion. we can't lose those games if we expect an at-large bid in the ncaa tourney. still behind this team, and will be no matter what happens, because our future is bright !!! GBO !!!!

Losing to etsu is inexcusable. They are 4-11 in the Asun.

Winning the series in starville makes tenn virtually a lock for Hoover. That would mean a 3game lead and the tie breaker over them. Losing the series makes not making Hoover a real possibility as they still have a series with Bama left.

The Vols have already played the top-3 teams in the east as their schedule does let up a bit. The next 2 weekends on the road are winnable as long as our pitching holds up.

The last 2 weekends at Jekyl/Hyde Ole Miss and at home against an Arkansas team trying to earn a region host bid will be huge.

We have a different leadership now but Vols never seem to do well in final weekends. I would love to see a 3+ game lead over #11 team.

#12 Alabama: Vandy, @SC, MSU, @UK, UGA
#11 Miss St: Tenn, OM, @Bama, @Fla, UK
#10 Vanderbilt: @Bama, UK, @Tenn, @LSU, OM
#9 Ole Miss: Ark., @MSU, LSU, Tenn, @Vandy
#9 Auburn: SC, Tenn, @UGA, @Ark., Fla
#9 Tennessee: @MSU, @Aub, Vandy, @OM, Ark.
#9 Georgia: @Fla, @LSU, Aub., SC, @Bama

* Tennessee has their fate in their hand as 4 of their final 5 series are against teams in bottom 7.
* Miss State, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Bama play 3 of the bottom 7.
* Georgia and Auburn have three series against the top-5 teams.

#12 Alabama has practically sewn up the #12 spot.

Georgia and Auburn have fewer chances against lesser teams and thus have a tougher road.

I think there is a VERY good chance that both Alabama teams miss the tournament. I see them losing at least 3 of their last 5 series with possible sweeps in two.

Alabama has practically sewn up the #12 spot. The still have series against Vandy, @SC, Miss St, @UK and Georgia. Tide would have have to be at least .500 against that slate to have a chance at #10. I see them only having a chance at 1 series win with ZERO chance at a sweep against anyone.

so the #11 spot deservedly belongs to Miss. State. They play Vols, Rebels, @ Bama, @ Florida, Wildcats. MSU better make in those 1st 3 weekends.

Thanks for listing miss state remaining opponents. That's a killer finish for them. As you said they better get hot these next 3 weeks.

Another thing worth noting going forward is that Auburn lost one of their best Lefty starters to tommy john. They are on the list of teams that better be worried about making Hoover.

Tennessee has only one series against a top-5 team. However, they are going to be playing some high stake games.

If Tennessee plays their "peer" opponents as hard as they have the top-5; then they have a better than average shot at #6 spot. This would guarantee an NCAA bid as a #2 seed somewhere. Probably an ACC school like UNC, Ga Tech or Virginia.

Teams looking for new coaches next year?

Cohen will be done at Miss State with a #11 finish. 3 losing season in 4 very likely.

Kentucky will lose Henderson without a better commitment to program

Pawlowski should be safe at Auburn, as they are 2 years removed from division title. Will be on hot seat in 2013 though.

Gaspard would be on hot seat if Alabama cared about the sport at all. However, this team is monumentally bad.

You bring up an interesting topic. I thought Cohen bought himself some time last year but you never know.

Where would Henderson go? He was rumored to be fired himself at the end of last year. I don't see him having many good choices.

It looks like Kentucky has a great shot of winning the SEC. A coach from a non-traditional school that wins the SEC can get a job in dozens of places. Other SEC schools, ACC School. Big12.

Would Mississippi State hire another UK coach?

I would bet a down-on-their luck ACC school in Virginia and south would be all over him.

I am sure he will get a lot of buzz for this years success but a closer look will scare the big schools away as they will see him as a one year wonder in my opinion. As far as miss state hiring him I don't see any chance. I wonder if Raffo would get that job this time around. He has done a very good job at arkansas state.

So Alabama in College Baseball is as horrid as Kentucky is for College Football?
