SEC Steps Up Censorship of Coaches

I didnt fight in a war for somebody to not be able to say what they want to say. If any SEC coach has anything they want to say, I think they should just say it! If Slive ever told me I couldnt say something, he would spend the rest of his life wondering why he was so stupid to tell a man he couldnt say what is on his mind.

I'd love to see the ghost of Robert Neyland publicly tell Mike Slime what to do with his reprimand.

The duct tape line has me thinking... What if a trailer full of duct tape showed up at the SEC offices? Trailers full of peanuts showed up at CBS headquarters over the cancellation of an obscure show and elicited change; I think a simllar gesture towards Slive would be funny and poignant.

Slive simply wants FL & AL to be #1-2 so he can be in the limelight. It's all about the money, & everyone knows it. This Kommisar is managing to ruin SEC football with his lack of integrity (same with half of the SEC officials), not to mention trampling on the 1st Amendment. Sound familiar? We need a man like Roy Kramer; alas, all we have is this ambulance-chaser heading up the greatest conference in the land.

I heard about this y'day afternoon and after nearly 24 hours it still sounds like a bunch of BS to me. I understand Slive (a$$) doesn't want coaches to criticize the refs--bc let's be honest the REFS are the ones putting butts in our $tadium$---but going straight to suspension is ridiculous.

What happens when Slive's BFF, Urbie, gets a call this year or the next that is blatantly wrong and is almost entirely responsible for a loss for UF--and he comes out and has questions regarding the validity of said call? Slive gonna suspend him?

Personally I agree with most of coaches who've come down on the refs this year--the officiating is putrid...and if Slive had any sense he'd realize that they're (refs) horrible job performances have cost multiple teams losses this year.

I'd be pissed too if I was one of those coaches--and I'd tell Slive exactly how I felt.

All this boils down to is Slive trying to exert his "authority" over the HC's of the SEC.

Mike Slive issued a new memorandum today saying that on the first time an SEC coach criticizes the officiating he'll be suspended or fined without a verbal warning. Power trip?

SEC ramps up effort to quiet coaches | CollegeFootballTalk.com

It isn't a power trip; Slive has a real problem. The officiating has been substandard across the conference, so much so that he had to step in and suspend one of his crews just to make it look like the SEC office was trying to do something to preserve some integrity. Now, his own coaches are publicly calling that integrity into question on a regular basis.

This is about perception. There is a ton of money on the line and there are implications that reach outside the conference. Part of the job of the conference office is to ensure a fair competitive environment, and lousy officiating made public calls that into question. There is no quick and easy fix to make the refs better, so he is trying to get the publicity under control.

In the days of 27 cameras on the sidelines and 24hr sports news, that won't work, but my guess is that he is trying to figure out a way to get through the season so that he can evaluate the quality of his zebras after the storms blow over.

To say there is a conspriracy is a reach, at best. And kinda silly.

To say that the SEC hopes UF, and Bama stay undefeated, til the SECCG is a different story. The only way a conspriracy works in this situation, is if they act to make this happen.

Too bad Slive can't be permanently suspended himself.

Seriously, to whom is Slive accountable? Who decides if he stays in that position or not; is it a by vote of the SEC ADs or the university presidents? Or is he just his own boss, answering to no one?
