Exactly. I've said this a few times. It's honestly mind boggling.

Yea we are the 2nd biggest dissapointment. Ole Miss wet the bed worse. Co-worker is an Ole Miss fan and he has been on suicide watch the last two months or so.

This season has been the epitome of coaching down to the opponents level.

So much wasted talent and what could have beens this season for the Vols that I think this one sticks with Jones the rest of his career.

IF VT doesn't turn the ball over 6 times, if we don't pull out App St, and we don't pull off the miracle at Ga. We could legitimately be sitting at 5-7 or 6-6. The team was indeed resilient and found a way to win the early/mid season games, outside of TaM...and deserves credit for that. Jones should thank his lucky stars the situation wasn't worse, as unhappy as everyone is.

Conversely, imagine if Dooley keeps Wilcox on board the season that Sal got Dooley fired. If Dooley got the same breaks that Butch did this year, it probably would have extended Dooley's tenure off an 8-4 season, which would have taken us further into the tank. I like Jones, and what he's done for us up to this season, but, unlike Dooley, he has opportunity to press on because of some fortunate bounces of the ball. IF it was truly about the injuries on D and OL, and being challenged in the passing game early/mid season, then he's got a chance at redemption that not all coaches get. I'm pulling for him to succeed because turmoil of coaching change, losing recruits and another multi-year rebuild isn't something I want to go thru again any time soon. Look at some of the UGA boards...where I'm shocked how they are justifying this year, and the 2-3 year rebuilding cycle because of the "dire" circumstance MR left them in...after going 50-17 over the previous 5 years.

Almost everytime that we get super super excited about an upcoming season, we end up being disappointed. We won the SEC East in 2007 and thought that 2008 would be a good year. A. Foster returned back for his senior season.... etc. etc.
However; in the end we only won 5 games and Fulmer is fired.
This season, we thought 10 - 2 or 9 - 3 and an SEC East title. We came up two games short of that goal.

I'm glad to be disappointed with 8-4. That is different than being glad to be 8-4.

Think how happy so many would be had we beat Vandy and then gone to the Sugar Bowl.

The Sugar Bowl is like all the others, when it's not part of the playoffs, just another game.

It's like the money thing everybody wants to throw out that he is making $4 M a year to win Championships, but then in some other bash Butch thread they are calling for UT to pony up some real money and go get who we all want.

That's what's great about it all, you CAN have it both ways, when you don't have anything to do with the decisions being made.

There is no "who we all want". There are 3 or 4 coaches that everybody "knows" are great and would be a splash hire, only 2 have led a team to a NC, so the others are just pretenders with a nice track record.

Hate Butch, love Butch, this isn't about Butch this is about timing and opportunity. The timing is bad to fire another Head Football Coach and the opportunity to get a proven coach isn't now either. Saban will likely retire from bama, and Meyers the same at oHIo(he couldn't handle the pressure of the grind of te SEC).

I'm not completely convinced that Butch can't keep us moving in the right direction. I'm sure no convinced that he can get us a NC, but if we cut and run now what coach would consider the Vols as a career choice(many don't look at the business side of this business).

Get it together Butch!

LSU was ranked preseason top 5 and picked to win the West by numerous pundits. Along with Ole Miss, UT had a lot of company.

We lost 2 games to cans. Historical bottom feeders of the SEC. While injuries may play a part, one has to question player development.
