SEC revised covid cancellation guidelines

"The revised policies establish roster minimums for competition and a provision for rescheduling games or declaring games to be no contests. The policies announced Thursday are a revision of SEC interrupted game procedures announced in August, which called for a contest to be forfeited and a loss assigned to any team unable participate, and are similar to the policies utilized by the Conference during the 2020-21 season."

I like this policy much better. Holds teams accountable while still allowing wiggle room to make games happen.

The fact they are requiring teams to play if they have at least 7 athletes confirms some of what many of us suspected last year. Some teams were cancelling games when only down one of their better players.

They are all college eligible athletes. If you have enough to play, you need to play. No more cherry picking which teams you want to play and when.

Still think schools that cancelled their season should be fined or have a post season ban for a certain period of time.

Like Duke, I love Kara, but what an advantage for a new coach to be able to forgo dealing with practice/games and focusing solely on recruiting and culture.

I’ve been careful not to compare Kara and Kellie on recruiting. Duke is an easy place to recruit to begin with, then she had an entire year to build a team and focus on only that. A little unfair IMO 🤷🏼‍♂️. The only discernible reason they cancelled their season were the same reasons I felt Vandy and UVA canceled: they were going to get their butts handed to them all year.

If Kara had to coach with the roster she had last season it would not have been pretty.

KARA WIFFED. And I have always had a ton of admiration for her. SMART Cookie, that I saw as the future UT HC.

Interesting that before the teams were "Fully Vaxxed" the THREAT from the SEC was "If you have covid cases and cannot play, you Forfeit the Game. Period, no wiggle. (That was before the new rhetoric that the shot won't keep you from getting covid, just make it less severe) --- (when the young & healthy had no issues with the virus to start with). Now, However, "since you did what we told you; we'll give you every chance possible to make the game up". Since WE are largely to blame for the mess anyhow?? This thing was and has continued to be --change the narrative to fit the situation. Just keeping it real; as I see it and as the evidence indicates.

Using auburn as the first example : at least one player is infected. there are other players being under the watch protocol and will not be available -deemed so by Dec 30th. with the advance notice and the decision being made while the players were on break it must be more than incidential. question can players under the watch protocol be available to practice. Lost practice time can also be a serious drawback.

Not sure exactly when this occurred but the cdc backed off the ten day watch to a five day watch for symptoms.

Time to pause the season ???

Just cancel games in January and play them in February. Extend everything one month. Have April Madness instead of March Madness.
let the current Omicron Spike peak and begin its decline during January and have a near normal season afterwards.

In fact, I would not be surprised if schools starting delaying the beginning of Spring semester for all students until February

If the NCAA does not make a move like this then the season will not finish. Players and coaches deserve better than to be day to day not knowing if their next game is canceled.
