Interesting. That third to last poll has a tie between Georgia and South Carolina for first in the SECE.

I did not realize Phil Steele has the Vols at #25. I also notice he has South Carolina at#13. Most magazines you can throw out the window but Phil Steele puts some work into it and he's pretty darn accurate.

Its all moot until around week 3. Most teams schedule cream puffs there first couple games and real play for most teams dont come until week 3.

Yeah, we aren't worried. we remember Tenn and Cals last years preseason ranks. We also remember what happened when we meet.

Well it must be nice to have a team that doesn't change at all from the last year or lose any key players. I guess if you beat us last year that precludes us from ever beating you. :dunno: Good point, sorry, forgot about last year.

The pre-season rankings are, to some extent, the result of previous years, which featured a high pre-season ranking, followed by a much lower (or not listed) post-season ranking.

It would appear that those who make such predictions have come to the opinion that the Vols are no longer the conference and national power that they used to be.

Nice sarcasm. It's a good thing you didn't lose anyone key like Marshawn Lynch, or your 3 best defenders. That would be awful. And obviously you did forget about last year.

...and with regard to the UT - Cal game, it would be a waste of paper to wipe your arse with the pre-season rankings.

My point being preseason rankings are pointless. Rankings prior to mid season are really pointless. Us beating you last year has no bearing on us beating you this year, but we sure as hell hope it does.

Yes it would be awful, and yes I did forget about last year. I think everyone has tried to put that aberration behind them and concentrate on doing what they need to do to play competitive football THIS YEAR. I always hear all this whining about how tough the SEC is and then teams like Arkansas and you guys got blown out last year by OOC schools. In the case of Penn St., they really suck. I'm not talking trash I am just stating a simple fact that might be a little provocative to some of you. Cal would destroy Penn St.

Tennesse hasn't been blown out by an OOC opponent recently. You have. Your game last year was not an aberration. You've lost to every good team you've played (and some crappy ones) since 2003. Now go get ready for that epic Bears-Wildcats rematch. Maybe there is an Arizona board upon which you can spew your garbage.

And Tennessee would destroy Arizona.

They also continue to overrate California.

Phil Steele has the most imagination when doing preseason rankings, and he also digs deeper than the other magazines. He's also the most accurate. He obviously gets standings wrong and overrates/underrates teams. However, if you only trust him for his preseason mags, he's the best.

His weekly betting advice, though, is nothing worth reading.
