SEC prediction thread

Not sure what that means, but if it is some rebuttal to my comparison, I would point out that:

1. Georgia wasn't particularly good, and

2. Curry also beat Georgia while at UK twice, just like Brooks.

Did curry ever beat the eventual national champion while at kentucky?

Brooks' teams were way better than those of curry.

Plus, Curry completely blew it at the end when he made Tim Couch split time with Billy Jack Haskins at QB and was running an Option I offense. How on earth do you land a QB recruit like Couch and then make him run the option??

I think you put too much stock in one win.

I don't know if Brooks' teams were any better or not, but they weren't any more successful. It is only the expansion of the OOC schedule, the lessening of its quality, and the bowl games that create the illusion of success.

Curry blew my mind at the end making Tim Couch split time with Billy Jack Haskins at QB and trying to run what amounted to an Option I offense. Rarely has a coach landed that big time a recruit and then tried to wedge him into a more ill suited offense.

I won't defend Curry for a second, because I don't think he was very good. My point is that I don't think Brooks was measurably better. Their conference results spell that out pretty clearly, IMO.

no with all respect you are completely incorrect. the majority of football pundits all agree brooks had this team going in the right direction and was a program on the rise

If this is true, the majority of football pundits are wrong. 2-6, then 3-5 is not on the rise. Neither is finishing 6th and 5th in a 6 team division that includes Vanderbilt.

Or, perhaps they believed Curry was on the rise as well. He finished 2-6, 3-5 in his last two seasons, good enough for 5th and 4th in the same division.

1. Tennessee goes 7-5 with wins over Martin, Oregon (upset special), UAB, Memphis, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. We earn a bid to the Music City Bowl.

2. Spurrier retires, Miles is fired, Richt stays

3. Auburn improves to 9-3.

4. Alabama goes 11-1.

5. Miss State goes 6-6 and earns a bid to the Liberty Bowl.

6. Arkansas is the surprise team and finishes 9-3, 2nd in the west.

7. Every team in the west becomes bowl eligible. Ole Miss has an incredibly easy schedule.

8. Alabama wins SEC Championship over Florida (no surprise)

9. Alabama faces off with VA Tech in the National Championship.

BREAKING NEWS:

The punishment levied by the NCAA means Alabama will be forced to give up all 8 real championships, as well as the 16-23 imaginary championships, including their overtime victory over the Sugar Plum Fairy in 1985, the defeat of Dunkin Donuts in 1979 and France in 2000.

I say let them keep the victory over France.

I think people are just really underestimating how badly Tennessee will be hurt by its lack of depth and inexperience this year.

i'm not saying they won't. it absolutely is going to be an obstacle. but things aren't so bad that i'm willing to say we finish behind kentucky and/or vanderbilt. even getting a 3rd place finish is somewhat possible if the cards fall in ut's favor.

Tennessee finishes 8-4, second in the east behind Florida. Poole and williams rush for a thousand yards apiece. Dooley is named coach of the year. Simms emerges as an early heisman candidate for next year. Tennessee plays and beats Penn state in the outback bowl......Can't think of anything else right now, but as long as it's a prediction it's gonna be good. IMO.:):peace2::superman:

1. Tennessee will go bowling.

2. Richt will be fired after (a) losing to florida (b) losing to someone georgia shouldn't lose to and (c) getting blown out in a game that georgia clearly did not show up in. b and c georgia has done for the last four or five years and georgia fans will say enough.

3. 5 teams from the SEC west will be better than all but 1 team in the SEC east.

4. lsu, arkansas and miss state will all beat someone they are not supposed to.

5. Alabama will lose twice.

6. Florida and alabama will split their meetings this season.

7. Steve spurrier will retire

8. Everyone will fully appreciate how good bobby johnson and rich brooks were as coaches as kentucky and vandy will have trouble putting their helmets on correctly this season

9. Two SEC teams will make BCS bowls and win. But, the SEC does not have the national champion this season

10. Tennessee's season will not be pretty, but fans will see enough to be encouraged

2) Not a chance. Richt will still be there unless UGA goes 4-8 or so (not happening with their weak schedule)

6) Bama sweeps UF this year. Just a gut feeling.

9) Bama repeats as national champs with one loss (can't believe I just said that :puke5:)

Just my two cents. Agree with all of the other ones listed.

Yeah, definitely, but I think 5th place is much more likely than 3rd.

They also have to play several teams who have two weeks to prepare for them.

That said, I think Bama loses 1 game at worst. Hopefully that happens against us in Atlanta.

I'm saying they lose 2. I want one to be to the Vols obviously in the regular season but doubt it. I'd say they lose to UF, Auburn, or LSU in the regular season. They will come in down for one of those games and they will sneak up and beat them. Then lose in the SECCG.

Desperate for quarterbacks, Ole Miss will bring in Archie Manning as a delusional attempt to bring depth to the team. Archie wins the heisman and ole miss are the national champions-beating duke.

You have no credibility. You cannot be objective due to the fact that you are a Duck, and you are hoping the Vols suck. My prediction is that we spank Oregon (i.e. Cal in '06) early, falter in the middle of the season, and finish strong as always. I say worst case 3rd in East but more than likely tied for 2nd.
