Conference Power Rankings

I honestly have no idea why Vandy is ahead of us, and SC is a stretch as well.

We have to prove a lot to people after last year, and that's understandable.

but we should never have to prove we are better than Vandy. Even our offense last year was good enough to beat them

Despite one man's opinion, you know it's a sad day when Vanderbilt is ranked ahead of us in "power rankings."

Everyone, all together now...

Preseason polls don't mean a thing! It's just a way for the media garner attention and get ratings. Go Vols!!!

There'a lot of love for Bobby Johnson out there right now...

You have to admit...when you consider what a joke Vandy has always been in football...what he's done there is next to amazing

no it's really not. One winning season and a win% on par with the rest of Vandy's coaches?

It's preseason rankings & it doesnt mean anything but i honestly dont think Vandy, South Carolina, & Arkansas should be in front of us.

While Vandy, SC , and maybe even Ark are a stretch, I'm good with this for now. Let them prove it on the field. TN is always better as an underdog!!!!!

"After 31 combined seasons in the SEC as head coaches, Tommy Tuberville and Phillip Fulmer are now out of work. Man, does it change quickly in this league."

The sheer contradictory of this statement discredits these power rankings

Arkansas RB transfer from USC will help them alot. I expect Nutt, Saban, Petrino and Les Miles to all have VERY tough teams this year. Les Miles will coach his the worst as always.

They did have a better record than us. They also beat Ole Miss, whereas we couldn't even beat Auburn. I am not saying I think they're better than us, I am saying we need to show it this year because last year it was a bit ambiguous when the dust cleared.

In the article: The reality, though, is that the bottom five teams in the SEC right now are pretty close to being interchangeable.

ref Tennessee specifically:
..the two guys playing quarterback are the same ones from last year. Maybe Jonathan Crompton and Nick Stephens are better under this new regime, but they have to prove it first.

Fair enough for pre-season don't you think?

I'm sure they're not better than us because I watched us beat them. It doesn't matter if they beat OM since they couldn't beat what may be the worst UT team I've ever watched

True, the rankings are a little strange when you consider how we Tennessee fans see our program. But there are way too many question marks coming into this season for us to expect anything better.

I have a feeling once the season is over alot of people at ESPN, and other media outlets, will be saying how big of a "surprise" UT was this past season, when we here at VN knew all along what was going to happen.

A tough loss at Florida, but one where we stay relatively competitive(14 pts or less), beat who we are supposed to beat (WKU, Ohio), get revenge on UCLA and a weak Aub. team, and come out with a tough home win agains the Dawgs, and I think the media will be plenty surprised at us going into the Alabama game.

All that is not too far fetched if you ask me.

If he is right about is assessment of UCLA (questions at QB and OL + a good defense), it sounds like Game 2 on the schedule will be goosefeathers vs. steel for both teams.

So you know Auburn and Wyoming are better than us? UCLA is definitely better than us?

UT > VU...always

i don't think it's that big of a deal that we're 9, just that vandy is somehow ahead of us...

"The reality, though, is that the bottom five teams are interchangeable" that's just a clever way of saying "i don't know enough to do these rankings"

last year? yes, they were better. However if we had used the same offense vs them that we did on Vandy we beat them all

As a whole, Vandy was better last season.

Or, the teams are close enough that the season matters. If he knew enough to really rank'em pre-season, why even play the d@mn games?
