SEC Play

if you offered me 12-6 right now with no significant injuries going into postseason play, I'd happily take it
I hear ya, but I’m sticking greedy till we’ve dropped a couple. 4-5 tops is my hope.. that SHOULD be good enough for a 1 this year

I hope everyone understands, that there is no easy games in the SEC. Every game will be a challenge, we will drop some games for sure. 12-6 would be great. Our 3 point shooting will be the key.

But isn't that what Gainey, Dubar, and Boswell did lol?

I know that we had the horses to get that done on the road v an unranked team. That's not the point. We have to win 4 games in a row to reach a FF. Two of those will be against basically equal level (top 10) teams. To win 6 games means that we'll have to defeat 4 (top 10 & Top5) foes on neutral sites. One or two of those sudden death wars could put us in a foul trouble situation. Having the insurance of those 2 players (especially JPE) could make the difference in winning or losing on that one situation. I'm mostly concerned about having the bigs to win every game. The E8/FF will almost all have strong post play. That's what would make me feel a lot more confident in the run needed to win a NC.

There were countless opportunities to play Dubar and Boswell in a few of these pre-conference games. I would feel more confident heading into SEC play if our experienced depth was more than 7 players.

In a number of those Boswell was unavailable due to injuries and same for Boswell as well as personal reasons…not saying there weren’t a few games they could have squeezed a few more minutes for those guys, but they also haven’t been available for multiple games.

With SEC play coming up I figured I would make a thread just for it. I know it's early, but Lunardi has 13 teams in as of now. 9 teams #8 seed or higher.
SEC play is going to be brutal this year!

I count 10 8 seed or higher on that list 13 total.

1 Auburn and UT
2 Alabama and Florida
3 Kentucky
4 A&M and Miss State
5 Oklahoma
6 Ole Miss
8 UGA
9 Arkansas
11 Texas Missou 11 (last 4 in)
Vandy first 4 out
LSU next 4 out.

USCe are the only ones not on the chart. That would be nuts but I don't think it works out that way these teams all have to play one another multiple times. Kinda crazy to thing the SEC is now a better basketball conference than the ACC we pretty much dominate all the sports that matter. Baseball, Football both sides of Basketball.

I have a hard time seeing this many teams getting in. Some of these teams like Texas and Missouri will likely have 6-12 sec records or worse. Even though the conference is loaded, will the selection committee really give these teams the nod if they don’t get to 20 wins?

Granted, some easy ones, but SEC teams are 125-2 at home this season. Texas and South Carolina both lost opening games to Ohio State and North Florida. Hovering around that 4-5 or 5-4 mark could win the conference if you hold serve or only have one slip up at home.

I agree totally but.. since every team in the SEC already has at least 10-13 wins getting to 20 isn't that impossible for most. 7-9 wins is enough for most teams to hit 20 wins and that's doable for at least 10-12 teams. I think it comes down to the top teams that play each other twice trading losses which pulls down the net rating overall? I think the SEC gets more teams in than any other conference but not 13 maybe 10-12

Yeah, I missed one when counting 8 and above.
I wasn't saying that many teams necessarily make the tournament in March. There will be some that under perform in SEC play.

That said, I think we break the record for most SEC teams in this year. Missouri is pretty good. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they made the tournament come March. Illinois barely was able to beat them.

The 16 college basketball teams with the toughest remaining strength of schedule (per ESPN BPI):

• No. 1 South Carolina
• No. 2 Ole Miss
• No. 3 Vanderbilt
• No. 4 LSU
• No. 5 Texas
• No. 6 Kentucky
• No. 7 Alabama
• No. 8 Texas A&M
• No. 9 Auburn
• No. 10 Oklahoma
• No. 11 Mississippi State
• No. 12 Arkansas
• No. 13 Georgia
• No. 14 Tennessee
• No. 15 Missouri
• No. 16 Florida

The grind begins in the SEC.

This is reasonable. We play 11 of 18 games against current ranked teams, 6 of which are on the road, which is nuts.

I’ll take 12-6 with no significant injuries going into the SEC tournament.
You don't think we beat any ranked team on the road? Surely we beat 1. Probably drop another one we shouldn't tho, so that might get you to that 12-6. I'd like to think we are at least 13-5 good.

I would just as soon Tennessee get hot in the SEC tournament and carry that into March.

One other thing of note is SEC has 3 of the 4 undefeated teams left in NCAA men's Division 1 basketball.
Tennessee, Florida, and Oklahoma.
Drake being the only undefeated non-SEC team.
After today I believe we will be the only undefeated team. Drake lost, UF is at UK and OU is at Bama while we’re at home to Arkansas. Also, there are only 4 teams in the country with 1 loss outside of the SEC while the SEC has 3 unbeaten and 4 1-loss teams. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Pretty safe to assume SEC will for sure get 10 teams in the big dance. The record for any conference is 11, would be nice to match that record.

For that to happen the middle of the conference is gonna have to beat up on the top some. I think 12-6 this year is the equivalent of 14-4 in the past.
