SEC once again does something stupid

Ok I may be wrong and if I am please feel free to correct my information. I dislike Slive as much as anybody but you have to keep in mind while Slive is the figure head it's the presidents that make the decisions. He is just implementing what they have decided. Slive said the SEC presidents unanimously approved 25 scholarship limit. So I am with everybody in thinking that was a bad move to reduce the scholarships it's our own presidents that are to blame.

Sounds like this punishes kids that have borderline academic issues as well.

how does it do that? If they can't get into school then their LOI doesn't matter anyway

now if you're saying they won't get recruited as hard then that's not really on the school is it?

They are technically the same thing.

You have 25 scholarships to give. That's 25 LOIs to sign.

So how do they handle NSD? If someone puts out say...40 offers do they just stop the fax on NSD after the first 25 are received?

Seems like to me its just buisness as usual except three less kids, sorry, young men are getting a scholly.

Coaches usually know how many they have before NSD and save a spot for a surprise or two (which the coaching staff usually knows about anyways).

It's not like 40 kids have their LOI waiting to be faxed in and say Dooley turns off the fax machine after number 25.

I'd say that will be the next loophole coaches use. Make any players that are oversigned and are willing preferred walkons. You will still have attrition, and since you can only sign 25, you will have some schollys to award every year to 2-3 walk ons.

However, some players will be turned off by this because there is absolutely no guarantee of a scholarship at any point.

This doesn't cure all that much. Teams can still oversign. Most coaches aren't as unethical as Les Miles and don't wait until the kid is on campus to let him know he's greyshirting.

The medical schollie thing is the only issue that might come up, but I would be very suprised if the SEC office comes to a different conclusion than a team doctor more than a couple of times every decade.

If coaches have less room for error, then it seems they would be less likely to accept commits from players that might not clear academically. Loften, for instance. Maybe even a guy like Pat Martin.

Schools didn't impose the rule, the SEC did, so why would it be on the schools?

because it's on the player to get himself eligible. They will learn that playing in the SEC means your GPA and ACT are as important as your 40

Doesnt sound like it addressed "greyshirts" at all...they just have thre less schollys to play with.

Does anyone think this would have gone through if Urban was still at FL? Reason I ask is what if muschamp is struggling getting commits, and if Slive can tie everyone elses hands to level it out?

Shot in the dark lol

Does anyone know how close we are to the 85 if Thomas and Loften do or don't make it in?

Those three scholarships are used for sign and place and greyshirts.

The NCAA says you can enroll 25 players. If you only have 25 scholarships to give, you do not have to worry about oversigning.

If you do not over sign, you will not have to greyshirt.

Slive must be a PAC 10 or BIG 10 fan trying to level the playing field... This is insane. He basically just put every team in the SEC on a 3 scholly per year penalty/sanction... I do NOT understand this decision one bit... Absurd
