From the three games played today.
here were the totals (no overtimes).

Vandy 35
UK. 38
73 points

Ark. 35
Fla. 63
98 points

USC. 42
UM. 59
101 points

And, we have a “defensive specialist“ as our head coach.
offensively, we have a severely challenged group of QB’s, no game breakers at RB, few WR that get separation, no quality TE, and a ballyhooed but underperforming line.
All thisin Pruitts 3rd season.
this in what was supposed to be the beginning of “the decade of the Vols”.

we are swimming upstream with this staff.
We should go get an offensive minded HC.

We are not swimming upstream.
That implies progress being made.
We are still going backwards.

I still say our problem is not JP ...................it is our antique offense ......not even as potent as the single wing and about the same date of the single wing.
But if we had Trask playing QB we’d be scoring 35+ a game, but if he was here he’d most likely be watching JG !
So I guess we disagree on what the problem is

It's a very weird year for trying to eval....pretty much anyone. Obviously fans are going to pass judgement, it's what we do.

Jim Harbaugh, who took a team to the super bowl, has Michigan looking worse than we've ever looked in year 5 of his program.
James Franklin, who took Vandy to consecutive Top 25 seasons and has had Penn State on the cusp of the playoffs, is 0-4 in year 6 of his program.
Indiana, a team who's most recent loss is Tennessee, is surging in the Top 10.

I personally don't think those guys all of a sudden forgot how to coach. I don't think Indiana is all of a sudden way better than Tennessee, Michigan, and Penn State. I think forced disruptions to "the process" has artificially chosen winners and losers. Football is a game of inches when all things are equal. Throw in mandated practice cancellations and uneven player unavailability at random? Massive swings. Particularly for a program that was 0-8 in the SEC 2 seasons ago.

I don't think Pruitt or Chaney are dumb. I think they're likely still 2 of the best on their respective sides of the ball. I do find some of the strategic criticism to be valid. For instance, in a season that was almost always going to be a throw away year, it's hard for me to understand why we haven't been repping the freshman more.

Anyway, we can lose out and Pruitt is still going to get next year to show whether this will stay his program. I hope he's successful and we continue to keep loading up on sought after recruits. If he fails and Fulmer decides to go in a different direction, someone with a contemporary offensive philosophy at the helm wouldn't hurt my feelings.

The next part of the equation then becomes, who? And why? Essentially every name mentioned will be associated with a circumstance similar to what we're currently facing.

I think throughout most of the country everything is going as planned except Michigan and Penn State.

Are Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama and Oregon still the best in their league? Yes.

Did LSU take a step back as many predicted? Yes. Maybe a bigger step, but we all thought LSU would not be close to what they were last year.

Did Florida leapfrog Georgia in the East? Yes.

I think the one national surprise is Miami and they've flirted with death multiple times to remain with just one loss.

Arkansas is a surprise. But, the standings in the SEC look much like everyone thought they would. The one disappointment in the league is Tennessee. Probably could throw Auburn in that group as well.

Meanwhile, back in reality:
LSU lost to Mississippi State and Missouri - currently the 12th and 13th place teams.
Virginia Tech lost to Liberty
UNC lost to FSU and UVA after being ranked #8
Florida State is 14th of 15 ACC teams
Indiana is undefeated and #8
Northwestern is 4-0 after going 1-8 last year
Rutgers beat Michigan State for first B1G win since 2017
Minnesota is 1-3 (picked to win division)
Iowa (picked 3rd) lost to Purdue (picked 6th)
Baylor has gone from 11 wins to 1-5
Oklahoma started 1-2 despite starting in the Top 5
Texas lost to TCU at home despite being a favorite in the league
3 different Big12 teams lost home games to sunbelt opponents
BYU is undefeated and Top 10 with a Heisman candidate qb
Iowa State is in 1st place in the Big12

All chalk? I've been out of the loop.

I'm not addressing everything on your list, but just know that I could. But, I did address some of the list.

I already said that LSU took a bigger step back than people thought. Oklahoma would be the other team that is disappointing.

I'm sorry, but UNC losing games in football doesn't surprise me.

Northwestern hasn't played anyone.

Ditto Indiana, who has marquee wins against teams who are a combined 1-7 (the previously acknowledged disappointments of Penn State and Michigan)

2 SEC teams lost to Sun Belt opponents last year. Another threw in a loss to Wyoming and another threw in a loss to Western Ky. This isn't all that different in any given year.

Most everything you have listed happens from year to year. Last year's Minnesota is this year's Indiana. All of this is not weird and wacky due to COVID.

Don’t worry. We have a class choc full of three stars coming in. That should do the trick.

That is like saying... Saban is not the reason Alabama is so good and dominant.
