SEC Network in HD?

It was HD on Fox 54 in Huntsville, AL.

It depends on your local station. With it being on WVLT's sub channel in Knoxville, they don't have the bandwidth or equipment to show it in HD along with Tennis in HD on the main channel.

govols/cc, you can't get a HD picture from coax straight into the TV. You may get the channels, but they are not HD. You have to order HD programming and have a HD tuner, cable box, satellite receiver, etc. to feed a HD signal to your TV in order to get HD.

BirdRacer u are wrong sir. U can get every local channel in hd & a few more, the cable company don't tell u that tho. I can get nbc, abc, cbs, fox, plus affiliates, & a few more in HD. Tuners are built into hd tvs now. I cant get alot of premium hd channels like espn hd, or discovery hd, animal planet hd, golf channel hd, etc. I get by with what i got tho.

No sir, I am not wrong. You may get the channels, but they can not be in HD from the cable company over a piece of coax.

You can hook your antenna up with coax, and IF your tv has a HD tuner you can get HD channels, but that's it.

EDIT: Wait, if your TV has a QAM tuner you can.....my bad. It would have to be a fairly new TV to have it. So, I guess it is possible

without being ugly u don't have a clue what ur talking about. i challenge anybody with an hdtv & charter cable to hook coax straight to their tv & do a scan. may take about 10 minutes. the hd channels will probably be spread out but are there. like analog cbs is channel 7 here & hd is 103.2. at least u learned something new.

Dude, read the edit. I said if you have a TV with a built-in QAM tuner, it is possible.

Without a QAM tuner, it is NOT possible. I will guarantee you that.

didnt catch the edit before i posted. yes i have a built in qam tuner & most fairly new hdtvs do. its all good i just knew i was right.

Good for you, and I wasn't trying to be ugly, you turned it that way.

The reason I stated this was that some people since the digital transition believe they are getting HD channels and picture quality without even having an HD capable TV. The digital picture quality is so much better than analog, some people think it is HD. And with some of the digital converter boxes, it even says HD on the screen, which is very misleading.

Sorry, but I didn't learn anything today. Just left out an important fact.

Watched the game in HD on our local NBC station in Raleigh. Also noticed it was on in HD on several of the Sports network channels on DirecTV.

I was pissed when I went to watch the game and it was in standard def. You would think the SEC Network would be broadcasting in HD. soooo......

Everyone call and e-mail Comcast so we can get the SEC Network in HD soon.

In Knoxville, it wasn't in HD, but that's only because it was on MyVLT2. If it's on CBS it should be in HD...let's all hope we have no more MyVLT2 games.

I guess Comcast of Memphis is in the minority getting it in HD. Hard to believe Knoxville doesn't have it in HD.

Knoxville will have it in HD starting with week three, when the US Open coverage is over and the coverage moves back to the main WVLT signal.

WVLT wanted to put it on in HD on their main signal, but CBS made the US Open coverage "must-carry," meaning it could not be bumped for football.

And for those of you that want to blame/call Comcast, don't waste your effort, they have zero to do with it, it's all up to your local station.

I'm pretty sure if you have just coax hooked up straight to your TV, does not matter if it is an HD TV or not, you will not get HD. You have to have a HD box to boost the signal to get HD.

Well, that's what I said before, and that is correct if you have a standard HDTV without a QAM tuner. It doesn't necessarily "boost" the signal, but something has to "feed" a HD signal to the HDTV, unless it decodes the HD signal internally.

QAM stands for "quadrature amplitude modulation," the format by which digital cable channels are encoded and transmitted via cable. So, you have to have a QAM tuner to decode the channels.

It's basically just like hooking up an antenna to your HDTV with coax and receiving the locals OTA, the signal goes into the TV's built-in HD tuner and the tuner decodes and displays the HD output. The QAM tuner receives the cable signal, then decodes and displays the available HD channels output.

There are probably several models of TV's today with built-in QAM tuners, as I assume it is getting more common, but a year or two ago, there were very few sets that had this capability.

And yes, to go back to the post blaming Comcast, it has NOTHING to do with the cable company. The local channel broadcasting the game in your area has to broadcast it in HD before any cable or satellite company can relay it in HD. They can't take a SD broadcast and magically turn it into HD.

in upstate sc it is wycw channel 62, a cbs affiliate. don't know anything about comcast but if u have a cable box try the straight coax into tv & do a scan. u may get channels u normally wouldn't get.

I don't think that's correct if your talking about getting HD OTA. I have my HD hooked up to rabbit ears with coax. It does just fine. However the WKU game was not broadcast in HD locally in the Chattanooga area.
