The SEC on XM Tips Off March 8 with Complete Coverage of SEC Men's Basketball Tournament

BIRMINGHAM and WASHINGTON, DC -- The Southeastern Conference (SEC) and XM, the leader in college sports on radio, today announced a five-year broadcast and marketing agreement under which XM will become the official satellite radio provider of the SEC, broadcasting football, basketball and other sports to XM subscribers nationwide. XM will provide complete coverage of SEC championships, starting with the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament live from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta March 8 through 11 on XM channel 201.
XM will have the most SEC games on the radio with coast-to-coast live broadcasts ... University of Tennessee football, basketball, and other sports starting in fall 2007. .... , plus comprehensive coverage of the SEC football and basketball championships.

This is great news for me and other XM subscribers. My car came with XM radio built in, and I can listen to XM station via the internet for free. No radio stations in Atlanta carry the Vol network anymore so it's always a struggle to find coverage when the games aren't televised.

Great news! Makes me wonder if the Sirius and XM merger is going to happen. Hopefully not.

As an XM subscriber that lives out of radio range of the Vol Network, this is the best news I've heard all day.

This is HORRIBLE NEWS!! I started with XM but switched to Sirius and sirius is so much better in my opinion, the merger better happen now otherwise I guess I'll have to switch back :cray:

Sweet. As an XM subscriber for 5 years, I had to sacrifice some Vols games to be able to listen to the Bravos. Not anymore.

Nothing is happening until the end of '07, heres the Sirius email I received on it.

Same goes for me. The MLB package was exactly what was keeping me from ditching XM.

That and Stern are the principal reasons I got Sirius.

Come on, DOJ, approve that merger so's I can listen to my Vols!

i have sirius myself and i still get UT bball and football games, i dont think sirius is going to lose the broadcast, it's just that XM is getting up to speed in that department

Yep, and I had to go with MLB b/c 1) I will watch UT football games, not listen to them, and 2) listening to a baseball game on the road is my way of channeling the 80-year-old in me. Old-fashioned but nice.

But it will be nice to catch a Vols hoops game now and then on the dial, or maybe another SEC football or hoops game.

Oh great... now they come up with a reason for me to actually want my XM subscription... AFTER I cancelled it last summer... son of a ...

It's not like it's that hard to switch . . . and they are practically giving away equipment.

I hope you're right - I have Sirius (SEC was a big factor). I also have a year prepaid subscription :realmad:

The way I read it, it sounds like everything is moving over to XM. :dunno:

i also have a year prepaid subscription for sirius and i just got mine in january, but i still got a lot of the bowl games then and i have gotten to listen to UT bball games on it since i've had it to, the 2 companies are merging at the end of the year anyway so it won't matter what you have in '08

i hope that's not accurate, it wouldn't make much sense for them to discontinue the college coverage they are currently providing, especially right before all of the conference tourneys and march madness:dunno:

As an XM subscriber, this makes me happy:)

It also makes a nice present, as the coverage begins on my birthday, which will be spent, in part, driving to Atlanta. Perhaps I can hear the Cats get beat on the way down.

ok, help me out here...if I have neither, will I still be able to listen to my local Vol-Network broadcast of the games??
