*****SEC Media Days 2017 Live Thread

losing Tabor, Maye, Wilson, Anzalone, Brantley & Ivie is not as bad as losing Sutton (injured most of last year), Reeves Maybin (injured most of last year), Barnett and Vereen on defense?

No, I don't think so. They'll be fine on the defensive line. Tabor/Wilson/Maye are harder to replace.

For us losing Barnett is so massive. He was the only guy opposing teams really had to worry about last year, and he still had a great season.

The team with the easy schedule is UK, which once again, has the most favorable SECW draw. UT plays Bama and LSU, FL plays LSU and aTm, UGA plays Auburn and Miss St. UK draws Miss St and Ole Miss. UT, UF and UGA scheduled a marquee OOC game, UK did not. UK and UGA have an easier path than UT and UF, which is one reason they're getting more love.

So it's going to be next to impossible for UT but easy for florida, Georgia, and kentucky... got it.

People don't know what's there because they are not looking. We are stacked and ready to go. We could use more experience on D, but the pieces are there, and Butch has a way of making young guys play man ball early.

That was based on who's comments?

They play 7 home games, 2 neutral games and 3 away games this year. They play Michigan to open the season which they have not done in years (Idaho, NM State, UMASS last 3 years) Their OOC schedule has been one of the worst in the Country for the past 3 years. Alabama > LSU in my opinion. FSU is their whoopin game each year so does that really count? (FSU won 6 of the last 7)

My point was how do people think they will be better this year than last? They lost most of their team and added Michigan instead of their normal cupcake to open the season... I'll wait.

1. We have the home games we do because of the whole LSU fiasco.

2. Our normal OOC schedule is the same as everyone else's. 3 cupcakes and 1 quality opponent. And FSU is better than most any OOC opponent any school would have in most any year for the last 37 years.

To answer your question, no one is high on any SEC East squad. But, you have to pick someone. And you have to pretend to have a rationale behind it when you do. It's much easier to argue why every sec East school will be bad than why they'll be good

Tennessee was not as talented as Clemson last year purely because of Deshaun Watson. I could go on, but it isn't even necessary to. He made that much of a difference. Mike Williams on the outside was another difference maker they had that Tennessee doesn't quite have the equivalent of. Their defense, in particular their secondary, has been better the last couple of years (put more guys in the NFL than we have). We've had a very average at best pass defense when healthy, and when there are injuries it got way worse.

I agree that there was poor coaching and poor leadership last year, but the 2016 Vols were simply not talented enough to win a national championship.

Statistically Josh Dobbs was better.

On a per pass basis, Dobbs was the more efficient passer. And obviously he was the better runner. Watson just played on an offense that threw the ball a lot more. But on a per pass basis Dobbs was just as good.

The only difference between the two teams in terms of talent was on the offensive line. That is the only position where we are talent deficient compared to other elite teams.

We may have been as talented as Clemson at our 1's on the depth-chart (even that's a supreme reach), but top-to-bottom, in terms of depth, we were nowhere near Clemson.

I think that the difference would be especially evident on defense.

I don't know why I'm even giving this argument the time of day...

Based on recruiting rankings we were just as talented as Clemson.

Florida will be a lot better simply because they'll have a better QB running the offense.

They lost an NFL defense. And they haven't recruited at an elite level the last 3 years like they did from 2012-14 (which is how they built that elite defense made up of future NFL players).

Florida will not be as good defensively this year as they were the last few years.

Being an NFL scout and all, how many future NFL draft picks are currently on Florida's roster on the defensive side of the ball?

Thanks
