Thanks for posting Freak. I'll be at the first 2 games and able to watch the first half of the Ohio game before work.

We shoulda been the 7:30 game on ESPNU instead of Florida/North Texas. We're better than Florida and Ohio is better than North Texas.

Disrespectful to put us on at noon.

It's missing some CBS games though.

Week 1: UCLA at Texas A&M – 3:30pm, CBS

Week 2: Kentucky at Florida – 3:30pm, CBS

Week 3: Alabama at Ole Miss – 3:30pm, CBS



It's also missing:

Week 1: Missouri at West Virginia - 12 PM, Fox Sports 1

Week 3: Vanderbilt at Georgia Tech - 12:30 PM, Not on TV (ESPN3)

Florida won the SEC East last year while we were left pondering what might have been. Until we beat anyone of significance then they have all the right of putting them in a prime time game.

Pretty sure the noon SECNetwork time slot is higher up on the selection order list than ESPNU.

(As in, ESPNU being included in selection when there are too many games for the normal system.)

Because of its contract, CBS only starts to get first selection of SEC games in week 3 (it used to be because they had the rights to broadcast the US Open, which ESPN has since purchased...note the lack of ESPN2 games in week 1).

Before then, CBS can purchase the broadcasting rights to a game from ESPN that ESPN's willing to sell to them...so essentially they've got the 2nd or 3rd pick during those first two weeks.

Broadcasting rights also relate to who's the home team.

If you look at the slot of games involving SEC home games in week 2:

Nicholls State at Georgia
Prarie View A&M at Texas A&M
Kentucky at Florida
Western Kentucky at Alabama
Middle Tennessee at Vanderbilt
Wofford at Ole Miss
South Carolina at Mississippi State
Arkansas State at Auburn
Jacksonville State at LSU
Eastern Michigan at Missouri



There really aren't a lot of great options, and since ESPN gets first choice for the first two weeks, it likely used that on the South Carolina vs Mississippi State game.

For ratings purposes, CBS is always going to take an SEC vs another SEC team (or at least versus another FBS team) when it's possible, as opposed to an SEC team playing a mid-major or FCS team.

With that week 2 lineup, that pretty much only left Kentucky vs Florida for CBS to purchase.

There is no "selection order" after CBS has their pick of which game they want. ESPN delegates the times and networks after CBS has their pick. Usually put the best at primetime, and the worst at Noon or the same time as CBS.

Third game of the year is at 12pm. Well that didn't taken them long, but it's also Ohio so I can see why they did that.

Yeah..

I'd bet Ohio/Tennessee gets far more viewers than the ESPNU Florida game. No one is going to watch Florida beat the **** out of North Texas(other than Florida/North Texas fans) while there's a bunch of good primetime games going.

People other than Tennessee/Ohio fans might actually watch Tennessee/Ohio cause it's as good as/better than most of the other garbage on at noon.
