4. Tennessee: Fourteen true freshmen and 22 freshmen overall have played for the Vols this season. Three true freshmen have made starts this season: wide receiver Marquez North (four), defensive back Cameron Sutton (four) and wide receiver Josh Smith (two). North, who leads the team with 12 catches for 112 yards, became the first true freshman to start the season opener for Tennessee at receiver since Marsalis Teague in 2009, while Sutton is the first true freshman defensive back to start a season opener since Justin Coleman in 2011. Defensive back Malik Foreman intercepted a pass in his debut against Austin Peay, becoming the first true freshman to record a pick in his Vols debut in the season opener since Dwayne Goodrich in 1996. Defensive back Devaun Swafford recorded a pick-six in Tennessee's loss to Florida last week.

I remember us having the same problem with having to play a bunch of freshman a few years ago, I didn't think it would happen again so soon honestly.

The bright side of things is that we are not like Alabama. We can sell our recruits on the fact that they can come to U.T. and play immediately. At Alabama, that is not possible.

Who wants to go to practice all season and end up being red-shirted? Then your red-shirt freshman season, you play on special teams. Then your red-shirt sophomore season, you play special teams and mop up duty in blow out games. Then your junior season, you can compete for the starting position.

Why not come to U.T. and know that all of those weekly practices will have an immediate reward, by you getting real playing time as a freshman..... Not red-shirting or not having merely special teams playing time?

Having to play freshmen and walk-on's to field a team, will hopefully end soon. Allowing these young men to redshirt and mature will build more depth,
and we certainally need more depth and maturity.

This list could get longer as Mike Williams might take Coleman's position on the perimeter.

That could give us a RS FR and True FR starters at CB.

That's one of Butches best selling points. They can come in and compete for a starting position right off the bat. GO VOLS!

Seems to be working alright for Alabama.

Hopefully we will be able to be in that position (depth-wise) one day again.

I'll tell you what impresses me. Cam Sutton. That kid must be able to play. UF tested him deep last week for the first time. He was beaten a little, but recovered to break up the underthrown ball. I'm shocked that every single team has not tested him deep repeatedly. He's tackling pretty well and covering like vet out there. Very impressed. Shocked really. Glad CBJ was able to keep him in the fold.

We'll get to see him tested against UGA and UA.
