I don't give a crap about high school! Jeez man......Dobbs was the 5th best qb in the state of Georgia that signed with an sec school. He is better than all of them including Jennings at lsu and Ramsey at Uga.

Depends on which recruiting service you look at. On Rivals Hurd was 5th and Chubb was 6th. All in all I don't think there is a big difference in the top players rankings wise coming out of HS. College is where you really see them separate themselves.

Honestly, I don't know how you even evaluate Hurd at this point. He played behind the worst Vol offensive line of my lifetime. I'll bet he didn't have more than 20 carries all season where he had a clean running lane and was able to get to the second level untouched. He took a serious beating this year.

While Hurd is a very solid back he is not the next Jamal Lewis and we need to understand that.
Enjoy his talents as he appears to be a solid work horse.
Heisman material he is not.

Ehhhhh, all those rankings are somewhat "crap shoots" anyway. Who can really tell from HS and some camps?

What gets my goose is that UT was apparently 2nd on Nick's list of schools to sign with. Ugggh.

With proper blocking Jalen Hurd is another Reggie Cobb at the very least

I agree. It's just interesting to look back on. I would go as far as saying the top 10, depending on position, could be put at any number you want. They're that close in talent.

No he isn't.....he is a tad better maybe than Riggs and Ced houston. He is not Webb,Lewis,Cobb, garner level. He's too tall to possess their skill set. He is unique, catches tge ball well, and has lots of good qualities, but he is not elite. He is very good though.

As bad as I hate to say it Chubb watched us and them and probably thought "whew, best decision I ever made. Poor Jalen". :birgits_giggle:

Recently though, UGA has a better record of star RB's every year. LSU might be even better. UT will hopefully regain glory days with these 3 potential stars. We had some great years as well in the 80's, 90's and early 00's.

I thought Hurd's production was pretty darn good this year....especially all things considered....including limited to no carries in 3 games. Everybody seems to love the big impact runs....guess I do too, but also like the fact that he is a steady contributor, good blocker and excellent receiver out of the backfield. I think we'll be fine with him running with the other guys coming in.

If Hurd had ran behind a line comparable to Georgia's and LSU's then he would have put up similar numbers to Chubb and Fournette.

He will develop further. With time lifting and better balance he will be able to actually break some long runs. Hopefully he can stay healthy. He missed almost 3 games this year.

Once he gets a line that can get him to the second line of the defense (like Ga and LSU are able to do) you will see those big runs. He hasn't been able to stretch his legs yet because he is getting hit first at the line of scrimmage or in the backfield. Once the line develops and they are playing in their proper positions, Hurd will get those big numbers.

How can anyone be saying Hurd isn't as good as so and so? No one can make that judgement until they've seen him play behind a real OL.

Come on! Did you already forget just how bad it actually was? Worley got beat to hell and back because of it. Only reason everyone seems to have magically let it escape their mind is Dobbs came in and ran around for his life and hid the issue.

All of the players wear gps in practice according to CBJ, and guess who comes in at fastest? Hurd, believe it or not. Give the kid a break. Did anyone even watch this year? Yes he seemed a bit sluggish in the first half of the season.

Anyone remember seeing all the comments on him during the last half? "Does he look faster to you?" "Wow he does look faster!" Oh I'm sure that had absolutely nothing to do with him sitting his whole senior season of football out and not taking up a normal workout routine again until we really started practicing for this season. He's just now hitting his groove. Sit back and enjoy it.

Agree! It is frustrating though seeing other freshmen RB's break off 100 yard kick returns and 82 yard runs from the line. Having Kumara next year will really help Hurd. It's crazy that neither Fournette or Chubb were starters or every down backs like Jalen was. His expectations were probably too high from the start. I hope he gives Iowa something to remember! Go Vols!!
