SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Melissa Davin - Tennessee
1B/DP, Fresno, Calif.

Davin burst on the scene with an impressive week at #2 Georgia and Ole Miss. Davin started all five contests, hit .500 (7-of-14) overall with four runs scored, two doubles, her first career triple, a HR and six RBIs. At #2 UG she went 1-for-2 in the opener with a two-run HR that sealed a 5-1 victory and then followed that up with a career-high three-hit effort in the nightcap with a single, double and triple, just missing the cycle by a HR. At Ole Miss, she knocked in a pair of runs on a 2B in a 10-3 victory over the Rebels and was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI in the series finale as UT routed UM 9-0.

Melissa Davin Becomes UT Softball's Fourth Straight SEC Weekly Nominee University of Tennessee Athletics

April 11, 2011
By Brian Davis, Assistant Media Relations Director
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -

Make it four straight weeks for Lady Vol softball with a Southeastern Conference honoree as Melissa Davin garnered SEC Freshman Softball Player of the Week accolades on April 11 according to a Monday release from the conference office.

She also picked up a selection as the newest Lady Vol Athlete of the Week after a vote was conducted within the UT media relations department.

Having entered last week's six-day Tennessee road trip to #2 Georgia and Ole Miss with just six career starts and 25 career at-bats at Rocky Top, Davin burst on the scene by hitting .500 (7-of-14) overall with four runs scored, two doubles, her first career triple, a HR and six RBIs while starting all five match-ups.

The Fresno, Calif., native's outstanding week began during a high-profile televised doubleheader at #2 Georgia as Davin went 1-for-2 in the opener with a two-run HR that helped seal UT's 5-1 victory over the Bulldogs. The 5-10 first baseman/designated player then followed that performance with a career-high three-hit effort during the nightcap (9-4 UT win) with a single, double and triple, only missing hitting for the cycle by a HR.

At Ole Miss Davin knocked in a pair of tallies via a two-bagger during a 10-3 Saturday victory over the Rebels and was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI in the series finale as the Big Orange routed UM, 9-0 (5 inn.). In all seven of her 13 career hits and six of her 11 career RBIs at Tennessee occurred during this past week's road jaunt. She is now hitting .333 for the season over 22 games played (11 starts) with two doubles, a triple, two HR's and 11 RBIs.

She also had 4 walks on the road trip reaching base 11 out of 18 plate appearances.

I've had a chance to meet some of the Davin family in Palm Springs, a very nice family and Melissa is playing very well. It's going to be nice having her for 3 and a half more years. She's going to be challenged this weekend as is the rest of the team. LSU shut Alabama's offense down last weekend. Some regard Bama as having the best batting lineup in softball so it will be interesting to see if we can generate enough offense in Baton Rouge this weekend. Welcome to the Vol family Davin's.
