SEC East Champion scenario...

There is no scenario under the sun in which UT wins a SEC championship, much less the East, in 2011. Book it.

:eek:lol:

Ok... I believe you, even though you gave no reasons...you did say "book it"...and that's good enough for me.

If UT had the recruits that UF just had we would be thinking National Championship with this optimism....BUT, our offensive and defensive lines will NOT be dominant and that is what is required to win double digit games and championships (the 2009 Chicken Bowl also). I think everyone is "looking past" Florida because Tebow has left. They will still be a dominant team....love the optimism, but realistically, 7-6 is about it. Time will tell.

don't see the vols winning "tween the hedges" with all the holes your 1st year coach with his entirely new system has to fill. It may be closer than I think but I'm willing to bet that a true freshman QB will not beat Granthams 3-4 defense.....especially in Athens. Bray or (lol!) Nance will never know where the blitz will be coming from. This one could get ugly for you vols...real quick.

You forgot to take into account that you ALSO have a new starting QB and that Richt is the new Fulmer.

But the OP is just pointing out that it is not that far fetched to think UT could only lose four games next season. And because the East is so wide open next year, it is more likely than a normal year that a four loss team could make it to ATL out of the East division.

unless some of the freshmen step up BIG TIME we will be lucky if we are 3-5 after the Carolina game...

Yeah. That could easily happen. But if the ball bounces UT's way against UF with some timely turnovers, and UT could win against UGA and USCjr it could happen.

The west is much stronger than the East, thus the West teams will likely beat up on the east teams. Thus, which ever East team can win the head to head match ups against other east teams, it will make it to ATL even with several losses against west teams.

This is likely best case senerio for this UT team in 2010 (4 losses and East championship).

You had better hope Bray isn't ready because when he is he will dominate UGA for years...UT has never had problems with UGA in athens...We call it Neyland south...Remember this past season with that other coach we had?...He was a nightmare for you guys and wasn't even that good of a coach...Dooley is a better coach IMO and he should have no problem easily defeating UGA for years to come...Remember, We are STILL Tennessee :clapping:
I seriously doubt bray or any freshman will have much success vs. grantham's 3-4 attacking style of defense. there will always be a blitzing lb'er but you'll never know which one is coming. add to the equation your also rebuilding your oline. I think advantage UGA defense here. Dooley may turn out to be a good coach ....one day, but that hasn't happened yet. To say he'll beat GA on a regular basis at this pt in time is ridiculous. Do some research.... over the last 10 GA/Ut games.....Ut has only won 2 out of 5 games in Athens.....2004 & 2006. While UGA is 3-2 in Kneeland.

Too bad we aren't likely starting a true freshman, I'll take an experienced Nick Stephens or an experienced Matt Simms on the road at Georgia. I still think Dooley gets his first big SEC road win.

Take a minute to reflect. At this time last year who would have thought we would be 1 (out of 2) blocked field goals away from beating the No 1 team in the country on their turf?

Guys - anything can happen.

This is all speculation. We should all take a break until Mar 18. Watch some UT BB and Lady Vol BB.

A loss to FL is more likely than a loss to USCjr. Garcia gets lots of statistical yards but not many points to go with them. And Lattimore may be a super stud, but it will take more than him to make the lamecocks competitive.

So let me get this straight. A lot on here think we will beat Oregon, the defending Pac-10 champions, with a team that's going to be lucky to break .500?

after Crompton's performance vs. the dawgs i certainly won't say Stephens can't beat Ga. i do believe that replacing Willie Martinez will Todd Grantham and his 3-4 scheme will make the task much more difficult in Athens.

I don't agree. A win against Florida in the 3rd game of the season when we will both be breaking in alot of new players at home will be a much easier win than playing a team that returns almost their entire roster on the road late in the season when our depth problems will likely have caught up with us...but that is just my opinion!:good!:

You do realize your team isnt "built" for the 3-4, right? it sounds like you are expecting your DC to come in and work miracles. You mention our "1st year coach and 1st year system".....what about your 1st year DC and defensive system? Id wager that none of your LB's or DL's have EVER played in a true 3-4 system before. I think it will be a good game, but to act like you are going to blow us out or the game could get "ugly" for us, is pretty dumb, IMO. If we start a Freshman QB he will have the same game experience as any of the QB's on your roster.

SD, in no way do I think the Vols are going to automatically win @ UGA, I acually think it is very likely we lose that one. But for the sake of the hypothetical I chose TN beating UGA.

You're forgetting that Florida is still tremendously talented. It would be our best chance in a while to beat the Gators, but the fact that we're going to be breaking in players who for the most part are less talented than the Gators players, means that we'll be suffering another defeat to Florida.

I hope I'm wrong and we beat them, but, yea.

Until then, Tennessee still spanked Georgia.

Once again I don't disagree, just pointing out that I think the Florida game at home early may be an easier win than the SC game.
