Based on the first few week's data the SEC is down this year. What does that mean for TN, maybe nothing. However I think some of these teams are overrated.

One example is UGA, they have defensive talent, but NT went up and down the field on them.

Do not crown Bama yet TAM has a terrible D, VT shut down Bama on O.

The winner of Alabama/LSU will play Oregon for the NC, although I think the Ducks take it this year.

This year has the weird component to it that in the ACC and the Pac 12 there are two decent teams and tremendous suckitude in the rest. Fsu or Clemson could easily end up 12-0. Same with oregon and Stanford.

This last year of the bcs could be a nightmare.

At least you can't say it won't be interesting...

Which would be beneficial for anyone who still thinks a playoff is a bad idea.

Hm, the thread title has made me curious...I wanted to see how the conference has done as a whole at this point vs other conferences:

Alabama beat VT (1-0 ACC)
Alabama beat CSU (1-0 MWC)

Arkansas beat LA-Lafayette (1-0 Sun Belt)
Arkansas beat Samford (1-0 FCS)
Arkansas beat Southern Miss (1-0 C-USA)
Arkansas lost to Rutgers (0-1 AAC)

Auburn beat Washington State (1-0 PAC)
Auburn beat Arkansas St (1-0 Sun Belt)

UGA lost to Clemson (0-1 ACC)
UGA beat North Texas (1-0 C-USA)

UF beat Toledo (1-0 MAC)
UF lost to Miami (FL) (0-1 ACC)

UK lost to Western Kentucky (0-1 Sun Belt)
UK beat Miami (OH) (1-0 MAC)
UK lost to Louisville (0-1 AAC)

LSU beat TCU (1-0 Big 12)
LSU beat UAB (1-0 C-USA)
LSU beat Kent St (1-0 MAC)

Ole Miss beat Southeast Missouri State (1-0 FCS)
Ole Miss beat Texas (1-0 Big 12)

Miss St. lost to Oklahoma State (0-1 Big 12)
Miss St beat Alcorn St (1-0 FCS)
Miss St beat Troy (1-0 Sun Belt)

Missouri beat Murray St (1-0 FCS)
Missouri beat Toledo (1-0 MAC)
Missouri beat Indiana (1-0 Big Ten)

USCe beat UNC (1-0 ACC)

UT beat Austin Peay (1-0 FCS)
UT beat Western Kentucky (1-0 Sun Belt)
UT lost to Oregon (0-1 Pac-12)

A&M beat Rice (1-0 C-USA)
A&M beat Sam Houston St. (1-0 FCS)
A&M beat SMU (1-0 AAC)

Vandy beat Austin Peay (1-0 FCS)
Vandy beat UMASS (1-0 MAC)

So overall,

2-2 vs ACC
2-1 vs Big 12
1-0 vs Big Ten
1-1 vs Pac-12
1-2 vs AAC
1-0 vs MWC
5-0 vs MAC
4-1 vs Sun Belt
4-0 vs C-USA
7-0 vs FCS

So at this point, the conference is .500 vs the ACC and Pac-12 at this point; the only conference with a winning record against the SEC is oddly the AAC.

I may update this as the year goes on.

Oregon should have a straight shot at the BCS NC game providing they get past UCLA and Stanford.

Alabama and LSU play each other. And in turn, LSU plays tA&M. So each of those three teams could end up with a loss turning into a three way finish for them like the East had last year.

Clemson and FSU play each other so one is going to get knocked out. Problem is, it's early enough in the year for one to climb back up the charts. Still is a loss though.

tOSU is still a contender, but greatly depends on winning against Michigan. Last game of the year, that's an upset waiting to happen.

The other team to watch out for is Louisville. Easy schedule that should finish them 12-0. And they are already ranked in the top 10 and will probably climb as other teams are beat (LSU/Bama, Stanford/Oregon, FSU/Clemson).

I agree it is a mess, but you still have six top 10 matchups going against each other which creates a lot of room for undefeated teams to move up including Oklahoma State, Louisville, and Ohio State. It very well could end up with the same situation we had two years ago where a one loss team goes to the championship game and an undefeated team gets third place.

I don't think Ds are as good this year but the Os seem better in the SEC. I would not be surprised by a non-SEC BCS champ this year.

Clemson is a pretender this year. All flash, not solid enough up front.

Louisville may win every game by 30 and still not sniff the BCS Champ game.

My bet is OSU/Oregon play the winner of the SEC Champ Game, per usual. SEC wins by by a narrower than usual margin in the NC game, but still wins.

i know it's so early that a lot of these stats don't matter yet but the SEC is right there with everyone else, just not at the top of all the lists like usual. these numbers by the way are from the NCAA website and even when you break it down into categories it still looks roughly the same.

Uk's offense snuck into the top 25. Yikes.

Please do. This is good stuff and will be really cool to look at during Bowl season.

Right now, no D in the SEC is scary at this particular time. IMHO My opinion, may not be supported at this time with data, just my impression. It's still early in the year though. UGA, Bama and LSU lost a ton of talent early.

LSU's and UGA's spottiness on defense should be surprising. Both teams lost a ton last year.

Bama's secondary has been a mess, but we've yet to play a game with both of our starting CBs on the field at the same time. That needs to change, or the Ole Miss game is going to be a problem.

there is also the point that most, if not all, SEC teams have played a conference game, or at least against another ranked opponent where most of the others have had all fluff games so far, so you have that going for you

My humble opinion is that the SEC is indeed down. Bama is still the best team but by a slimmer margin. They benefit immensely from their Eastern Division schedule.

LSU/TAMU both good - rest of the West is no real threat
UGA/USC both good - rest of East no real threat unless UF gets tons better on offense.

Miss St., Arky, Auburn, UT, UK, Vandy, Missouri all mediocre and would still struggle for 8+ wins in any major conf.

Ummmm. Clemson and FSU have to play each other Oct 19th and Oregon and Stanford play Nov 7th.... It's kinda difficult for all four to finish 12-0.

For my money LSU is the best team in the SEC right now. I would put them at #3. I would put Oregon at #2 based on their struggles with Stanford last year. I think Stanford might be the best team in the country right now.

I wouldn't be shocked to see an Florida State/Clemson vs. Oregon/Stanford in the BCS game this year.

I agree that the SEC is down simply because there isn't a team in the East with a complete football team.
